Microbiology is the study of microorganisms that exist as single cells or cell clusters.

The
science of microbiology deals with the structure, function, and classification of such organisms
and with investigating as well as controlling their activities. One of the advantages of the science
of microbiology is that it provides simple tools for studying basic life processes, since many
cellular activities are shared by microbial cells and more evolved organisms. Virology which is
the study of viruses and virus-like agents, including but not limited to their taxonomy, disease-
producing properties, cultivation and genetics. It is part of microbiology that is very helpful for
us during the Corona virus pandemic. It is very important specially with fighting against the
spread of covid. Knowledge of the pathogenetic mechanisms by which virus enters, spreads
within, and exits from the body also is critical for correct diagnosis and treatment of disease and
for prevention of spread in the environment.  These days, microbiologists are gathering
information that can be used to inform trials assessing disease transmission and potential new
treatments. This includes providing guidance on which specimens should be collected and the
best diagnostic tests to use. They are also the ones who are exploring the possibility of testing the
anti-viral properties of a new treatment we have developed to assist with the fight against
COVID-19, as well as developing a new blood test to find out who has been exposed to the virus.
