17-SAMSS-511
A1 35°C. The available capacity at the end of this time period shall not be
Sec. 7.2.2
less than 75% of the rated capacity. The cell must recharge to at least
80% of the rated capacity within 8 hous.

The cell shall be considered to have reached the end of Sec. 7.1
its useful life when the ampere-hour capacity drops to 80% of the rated
capacity at the 5-hour discharge rate for nickel-cadmium batteries or the
8/10 hour discharge rate for lead-acid batteries.

Check that the Valve-regulated cells and modules are shipped in a fully 17-SAMSS-511
A3
charged condition. Sec. 18.2

Valve Regulated Lead Acid (VRLA) Batteries:

The manufacturer shall provide a pro-rated warranty for 10 years from
17-SAMSS-511
A4 the date of commissioning, including full free replacement guarantee
Sec. 7.3.2
during the first 2 years of service, either as a cause of defective
workmanship, or if the battery fails to deliver its rated capacity.

Check if, the cell temperatures deviate more than 3°C (5°F) from each
other during a single inspection, determine the cause and correct. If
SAES-P-103
A5 sufficient correction cannot be made, contact the manufacturer for
Sec. 3.2

Pretest requirements:
The following defines the activities and data required prior to initiating a
discharge test,
a) If an equalizing charge is specifically recommended by the
manufacturer, verify that it has been completed more than three days
and less than thirty days prior to the start of the test.
b) Check all battery connections and ensure that all resistance readings
are correct for the system.
c) Read and record the float voltage of each cell/unit just prior to the test. SAES-P-103

d) Read and record the temperature of the battery cell/unit to determine Sec. 3.2
an average battery temperature (suggest 10% or more cells/units).
e) Read and record the battery terminal float voltage.
f) Measure and record individual cell/unit internal ohmic values prior to
the test.
g) Take adequate precautions (such as isolating the battery to be tested
from other batteries and critical loads) to ensure that a failure will not
jeopardize other systems or equipment.
