What are Homonyms?
Homonyms refers to words that have the same sound but have different
meanings. Sometimes these words have either same or different spelling.
Here are some examples of Homonyms

Watch Watch

Watch and Watch are homonyms. They have the same spelling but have different
meanings. The first watch refers to a timepiece, while the second watch means to
look at something for a period of time.
Change Change

Change and Change are homonyms. They have the same spelling but have different
meanings. The first change refers to a money returned after buying something that
cost less than the amount given. While the second change means to make
something different.
Sign Sign

Sign and Sign are homonyms. They have the same spelling but have different
meanings. The first sign refers to use of gestures to convey information or
instructions. While the second sign means to write one’s name on (letter, card, or
similar item) to identify oneself as the writer or sender.
In English, there are many words that are consider homonyms.
 Words that sound the same but have different meaning and are
spelled differently
For example
Fair Fare

Fair and Fare are homonyms. They have different spellings but have the same sound.
They also differ in meanings. Fair means being equal, while fare refers to the money
being paid in riding a public vehicle.
 Weak — lacking the power to perform physically demanding tasks, lacking physical
strength and energy.
 Week — a period of seven days.
 Sun — The Sun is the star at the center of the Solar System.
 Son — A male child, a boy or man in relation to his parents.
 Plane — A vehicle designed for air travel.
 Plain — not decorated/nothing added.
