Exercise Nr. 4 SS 201
Date

1. Fourier Transformation

1.1
a) A rectangular impulse is given in time domain:
f(t) = 1 for |t- t1/2| < t1
f(t) = 0 otherwise.
Derive the expression for spectrum Frect(j ) and sketch the graph for t1 = 1. (Hint: See
page 71)

b) In the following figure a rectangular impulse is sampled by 5 equivalent Dirac impulse with
weight 1 and separation distance T (= multiplied at time point –2T, -T, 0, T und 2T).
Derive the expression for spectrum F(j ) and sketch the graph with the variable T in x-
axis.

c) The sampled signal from b) should be reconstructed, so that an UNIVERSITÄT FREIBURG
1 "
ideal low-pass filter with cut-off frequency fg and # g
2 !T T
is applied on the signal. Derive the expression for the reconstructed signal frecon (t ) .

1.2
In the following figure there is a rectangular impulse modulated cosine oscillation in time
domain f (t ) cos(6 ! " ! t ) for |t| < 1, otherwise f(t) = 0.

Represent the spectrum F(f) formula and sketch the graph with axis unit.
