“An animal shelter or pound is a
place where stray, lost, abandoned
or surrendered animals – mostly
dogs and cats – are housed. The
word "pound" has its origins in the
animal pounds of agricultural
communities, where stray livestock
would be penned or impounded
until they were claimed by their
owners.”

● Interviewed 15 people around Burlington
● Surveyed people at Harris Teeter
● Conducted a literature review
Interview Conclusions
● Concluded that BAS isn’t too well known throughout Burlington
● 8 of the 15 people interviewed were familiar with it or had at least heard
about it before
