Course Objectives and Learning Outcomes


1. Course Description
The course provides the students with the concepts and knowledge necessary to maintain and promote women's
health throughout their life – span; through pregnancy, interconnectional and perimenopausal periods, focusing on
primary health care concepts. Nursing strategies implemented at different maternity clinical settings are directed
toward meeting the physical, emotional and educational health care needs and nursing management of non-
pregnant females and women during normal and complicated childbearing and their families. Newborn care will
be addressed.
2. Course Main Objective
By the end of the course, each student should be able to:
 Understand the physiological, development and sociocultural factors that influence the different
reproductive health periods during women life span.
 Have broad understanding of physical and psychological changes of pregnancy.
 Acquire skills in fulfilling the different health needs of women during childbearing period.
 Demonstrate technical skills in providing immediate care to newborn infants.
 Utilize the nursing process in the nursing care management of women at different reproductive health
periods and in caring for newborns.
 Participate in family counselling about reproductive family planning.
 Provide relevant health teaching to pregnant women in collaboration with other health team members.
