1. Propane is converted to ethylene and methane in thermal cracking operation by

reaction:
C3H8 (g) ---→ C2H4(g) + CH4 (g)
Propane enter the cracker at 200 ℃ at a rate of 1,25 kg/s, and heat transfer to the
cracker is at the rate 3200 KJ/s. for 80 % conversion of propane, calculate the final
temperature of gas leaving the cracker?

2. A direct fired drier burns a fuel oil with net heating value of 19,000 (BTU)/(lbm). (the
net heating value is obtained when the products of combustion are CO2 (g) and H2O
(g)). The composition of the oil is: 85% Carbon, 12 %, 2 % N and 1 % water by
weight). The Flue gases leave the drier at 400 °F, and a partial analysis shows that
they contain 3 mole percent of CO2 and 11.8 % mole of CO on dry basis. The fuel, air
and material being dried enter the drier at 77 °F. If the entering air is saturated with
water and if 30 percent of the net heating value of the oil is allowed for heat losses
(including the sensible heat carried out with the dried product) how much water is
evaporated in the drier per (lbm) of oil burner?
