Plural nouns - They refer to more than one person, place, animal, or

thing.

Singular nouns- nouns that name one person, animal, place, or thing.
They are formed by writing the root word

Here are the rules we should follow in forming the plural of nouns.

1. Add -s to the end of the root word to form its plural.

boy - boys girl – girls

2. Add -es to nouns that end in s, sh, x, ch, or z.

dish- dishes fox – foxes

3. For nouns ending in f or fe, change f or fe to v and add -es.

wolf - wolves knife – knives

4. Add -s to other nouns that end in f or fe.

giraffe - giraffes belief – beliefs

5. Add -es to nouns ending in o preceded by a consonant.

tomato- tomatoes echo- echoes

6. Add -s to nouns ending in o preceded by a vowel.

zoo - zoos patio - patios

However, there are nouns ending in o that have two plural

forms, such as mangos or mangoes and volcanos or volcanoes. We
either add -s or -es to these nouns.

7. For nouns that end in y preceded by a consonant, change y to i

and add -es.
lily - lilies fly flies
8. For nouns that end in y preceded by a vowel, add -s.
 day - days key – keys

9. Change the spelling of irregular nouns to write their plural form.
