Technology
for Teaching
and Learning 1
Activity 1
:

Technology in education is also known as technical studies or technological

studies.
Technology in Education is a course that talks about technology as a subject
in the classroom.
Technology in Education is dealing with a wide range of technology, which
includes any invention, alteration, or improvement of the natural world to meet
presumed human needs and desires, as well as how technology does this through
the interrelated fields of math, science, engineering, and others.
The primary aim of Technology in Education in grades K-12 is for all students
to achieve technological literacy. The desire to use, handle, grasp, and
interpret technology in general is referred to as technological literacy.

The use of computers, information systems, audiovisual devices, and other

media is the subject of Technology for Education.
Technology for education is also known as Instructional Technology or
Information Technology (IT)
Technology for Education is mostly concerned with a limited range of
applications that are used for connectivity and knowledge dissemination.
Technology for Education shows students how to use a small range of
technology-developed techniques through the use of technology.
In grades K-12, the primary aim of Technology for Education is to develop the
teaching and learning process.
Educational technology
is the research and ethical method of designing, using, and maintaining effective technical
processes and tools to facilitate learning and improve results.

Management

Design: The method of determining learning conditions is known as design. The goal of design is to build
solutions and goods at both the macro and micro levels, such as programs and curricula.
Development: The task of converting design requirements into concrete shape is known as development. It
comprises hardware, software, visual and auditory materials, as well as the programs or packages that link
the various components together.
Utilization: Since frequent usage of audiovisual resources predates even concern for instructional media
processing, this is the oldest of the realms. The act of utilizing systems and services for the benefit of
education is known as utilization. This domain includes the concept of bringing about transformation through
instructional creativity. Those in charge of use are in charge of linking learners to particular materials and
activities, training learners to communicate with the chosen materials and activities, providing feedback during
engagement, assessing the outcomes, and integrating this use into the organization's ongoing procedures.
Management: Managing is something that instructional technologists are often asked to do. Programs,
projects, and settings can vary considerably, but the fundamental management skills remain consistent. These
abilities include program preparation and organization, personnel supervision, budget and facility planning and
administration, policy and process coordination, and leadership.
Evaluation: Evaluation is the method of evaluating the merit, importance, or value of an educational
program, project, or commodity in order to make a decision in this domain. The instructional curriculum, mission,
or commodity is the subject, not the students. While personnel assessment may play a role in the evaluation of
an instructional program or project, it is not the subject of this domain.
Technology is commonly thought of in terms of gadgets, instruments, machines and devices … most
(educators) will defer to technology as computers (Muffoletto, 1994)
The history of “Educational technology … can be traced back to the time when tribal priests systemized
bodies of knowledge, and early cultures invented pictographs or sign writing to record and transmit
information.” (Paul Saettler, 1990)
Educational Technology In ancient Greece, the Elder Sophist used the term “techne” to refer the process
of applying knowledge systematically to the practical art of instruction. They formulated cognitive rules,
systematically analyzed subject matter designed instructional technologies and devised effective instructional
materials.
During the Middle Age Advent of Scholastic Philosophy, Pierre Abelard introduced a technology of instruction
which was really a new method of structuring and presenting materials that helped set the style of
scholastic education.
Comenius, Pestalozzi, Froebel, Herbart and Montessori contributed their own concept on educational
technology improving educative process.
John Amos Comenius was recognized as the pioneer of modern instructional technology by reason of his
book Orbis Pictus (The World in Picture) which was illustrated textbooks for children studying Latin &
Sciences.
Edward Thorndike and John Dewey formulated scientific theory of learning and the scientific method,
respectively. Thorndike gave emphasis to the use of empirical investigation as a basis for an organized
process of learning. On his part, Dewey introduced a method of instruction in terms scientific method in
broad terms
The 19 the century paved in the advent of effective technological development including the production of
textbooks, use of blackboards and improvements in writing implements like pen and ink. Photography was
invented, giving a way to a movement called “Visual Instruction”. Educational Technology
By 1920, visual media became widely accepted. Then came the publication of audio-visual media texts.
In 1926, educational films were used as instructional media.
In 1927, Pressey wrote on programmed learning through a machine which tested and confirm a learning
task. Educational Technology
In 1932, the first instructional television program was aired at the State University of Iowa. About the same
time, the 16 mm sound motion picture was developed and this served as the educational workhorse during
the audio-visual movement of the time.
During World War II, the U.S. government encouraged the implementation of technology of instruction for
military training programs. This gave impetus to a system approach to instruction to include: micro-teaching,
individualized instruction, Language laboratories, behavioral laboratories, behavioral objectives, computer
assisted instruction and among others.
1. How do you define or describe educational technology in terms of your entire
teaching experience since your first year until present?
Educational technology is a term used to describe a wide array of teaching-
and-learning–related software and hardware that's increasingly being used
in college and university classrooms. Educational technology refers to
technology that usually helps facilitate collaboration in an active learning
environment.
As for me, educational technology plays an important role in today’s society
since technology revolutionizes the learning process and it creates a more
engaging learning environment. And it prepares children for the future.
2. Are the technologies today making your teaching life easier/more difficult
especially in this present teaching-learning scenario (new normal)?
This new normal is not as convenient as compared to what is the usual
situation before. It is very challenging for teachers because things have
changed and everyone experiences it. We cannot deny the fact that teaching-
learning process is affected. But with the use of technologies, the difficult
situation is made easy through the use of the different technological tools like
using social media, messenger, google classroom, zoom, and etc that make
learning possible.
3. How vast is your educational technology knowledge? Are your known technologies
sufficient enough in delivering the intended content to your learners?
If I were to rate my knowledge on educational technology from 1-10, I would
say that it’s 10 because I always attend webinars on the different online
teaching strategies that will help my instruction interactive and effective, thus
the intended learning outcomes of my learners are met and achieved. In my
experience, online teaching is an interactive platform that makes instruction
improved and successful.
