PEDIATRIC CARDIOVASCULAR

SUTURES
Surgical union that is made with different materials to close a
wound or to join a tissue, its function is to protect the wound
from external aggressions by bringing the edges closer, making
re-epithelialization easier and improving the aesthetic
appearance of the scar.

SILK
It is a braided multifilament
material obtained through
silkworms, it is not
absorbable
its function is to ligate vascular
structures, hold perfusion
cannulas and separate cavities

POLYESTER
Multifilament, non-absorbable,
synthetic composed of Poly
(ethylene terephthalate)
Use:
- Fix prosthetic valves or rings
- Leather closure
- Approximation of cardiac muscles
TCS approximation

POLYGLYCOLIC ACID
It is covered by a copolymer
that makes it less traumatic as
it passes through the fabric.It
has a very high tensile strength
and is preserved over time.

Its function is the approximation of

the fascia, TCS aponeurosis and
muscles

STAINLESS STEEL
It is a non-
absorbable suture
composed of 316L
stainless steel
It is used for the closure of the
sternum

CARDIOVASCULAR
SURGICAL INSTRUMENTATION 2021
POLYPROPYLEN
E Monofilament, non-
absorbable, synthetic
Use:
- Ideal for anastomosis of blood
vessels
- For intracardiac defects
- Heart valve repairs

POLYTETRAFLUOROET
HYLENE
It is the ideal suture for the
realization of vascular
anastomoses, monofilaments, 8 to
0 gauge

Uuse:
-for anastomosis between
dacron or PTFE grafts, in aortic
surgery

PACEMAKER THREAD
Polyethylene-coated wire,
which generates electrical
impulses from the heart by
connecting to the source of the
pacemaker when the patient
has cardiac arrhythmia

GORE TEX
Monofilament, non-
absorbable, synthetic
Use
- Anastomosis of vascular grafts
- Repair and replacement of tendon
chords
- Vascular grafts for peripheral vascular
diseases
