Reflection on Webinar “Strand 2: Dignity of Teaching as Profession”

My reflection on this webinar series was still on process because the speaker left me
astonished with his excellency in delivering the topic flawlessly. This is because despite the fact
that we are in the middle of pandemic battle, we are very lucky to have speakers who shares their
knowledge and skill with trough online broadcasting/streaming. I would like to express my
deepest gratitude to Bro. Roderick M. Aguirre,Ph.D. for imparting knowledge with us even in
the time of pandemic.
Teachers play a great role in the society, even when they are not recognized as heroes,
still, they do their job and that is to touch lives and helping students achieve their ultimate goal in
life. “Teaching as a profession is a group of well trained, knowledgeable, skilled, expert and
ethical individuals who are the guiding light of students to realize their full potentials” this is
absolutely true because without a true teacher a student cannot learn and discover his /her full
potential. Teachers brings light to the path of students as they continue to discover the meaning
of their life. Teachers must be flexible all the time, sensitive with the students and should sustain
learners with holistic needs. Teachers also must not stick to the curriculum, if possible, go
beyond the curriculum and provide real world task for the learners to learn more efficiently.
Because teachers practice their role in the society, they must do it without tampering their
dignity. Being a teacher is a very fatal role in the society, people think of you as a righteous
person, it is forbidden for you to show a little flaw to the society or else you will be criticized.
Yes, that’s true, that is why upholding your dignity from birth till the day you die is essential. It
is like a white paper having a small black dot on bottom, even though it is like a hairline dot,
people will notice it and will never forget it. That’s how important our dignity is, it is our worth,
our value as an individual we must cherish it and protect it. In the webinar series, the speaker
emphasizes that teaching profession is a collaborative work, and it is done by a group. And if
there are criticisms that we encounter, we must stop it there, let us protect the name of teachers,
we should not be like those people who spread rumors even though they do not know the
situation. Be like a water that stops the fire and not a fuel that will make the fire bigger and can
cause a disaster. As a teacher, we are role models, learners should learn from us.
Overall reflection to this webinar series is that being a teacher is not as easy as normal
people think. It is a profession that needs perfection and not a destruction. Your dignity as
teacher is very important. Once you enter a teaching profession career be ready to live with it and
also ready for the challenges which you may encounter along the way. Be a good person, always
pay respect even to those who don’t respect you and be a GOD-FEARING individual.
