Working Title

INT. BEDROOM - DAY
EMMA, 17, in pajamas, bounces her leg up and down while her
desk chair swivels.

Her heart pounds as she struggles to take deep breaths.


Tears start to form in the corners of her eyes as she takes
shaky breaths.
She shoves her chair away from the desk and rushes out of
the room.
EXT. BACKYARD - DAY
Emma’s hands shake as she wraps her hands in cloth.

She steps up to the punching bag, her feet shift and she
brings her hands up to her face.
She lands the first punch square in the center of the bag.
(INSERT) Kitchen timer ticking

She pulls back and closes her eyes for a moment.


Her feet shift as she lands another two hits on the bag.
(INSERT) Kitchen timer ticking then going off

Emma hits the bag harder and harder until her hand lands
wrong and twists.
She pulls back and clutches her wrist.

Her breaths are uneven as she holds her wrist to her chest
and hunches over.
INT. LIVING ROOM - DAY

Emma rolls out a yoga mat and lays down.


She takes deep breaths, at first shaky but eventually even.
Her heartbeat begins to slow down and quiet.

She becomes still and calm.


Emma lets out a deep sigh and covers her eyes with her
hands.

INT. BEDROOM - DAY


Emma sits at her desk and does homework.
She chews on the tip of her pen, then her eyes begin to
drift off.

She stops chewing on the pen and stares off into space while
her face becomes blank.
She attempts to pick up the pen and write, but cannot focus
on the paper.
She throws the pen down onto the table, grabs her phone, and
walks to her bed.
She lays down on her bed and curls up under a blanket.

INT. BEDROOM - SUNSET


Emma scrolls on her phone under her blanket.
INT. BEDROOM - NIGHT

The glow from the screen illuminates Emma’s face as she


continues to scroll and scroll on her phone.
She slowly blinks her eyes closed and drops her phone.

EXT. FIELD - DAY


Emma opens her eyes and stares at the sky.
She sits up in the field and runs her hands along the tall
weeds.

She tilts her face up towards the sun as it shines on her


face.
INT. BEDROOM - SUNRISE

She blinks her eyes open and stares into her room.
She rubs her eyes and looks at the clock on the bedside
table.

Emma lets out a sigh and looks at the door to her room.
(INSERT) The bedroom door in the background, the phone in
the foreground.
She tries to get out of bed but is physically incapable of
doing so.

The blankets tighten around her as she struggles.


The struggle continues until she cries out in frustration
and stop.
She pulls the blanket over her face and remains in bed.
INT. BATHROOM - DAY

Emma stares at her reflection and the reflection stares


back.
She picks up her brush and begins to brush her hair, but her
reflection does not move.

She moves the brush through her hair faster and faster but
the reflection never changes.
Her face contorts with pain as she rips the brush through
her hair.

Nothing changes in the mirror, the reflection remains stoic.


She takes a deep sigh and puts it into a messy bun.
INT. BEDROOM - DAY

Emma walks back into her room and sits down at her desk.
She picks up then pen off the desk and tries to write.
She begins to chew on the pen again as her leg begins to
bounce.

She throws the pen down and flops onto her bed.
INT. BEDROOM - NIGHT

Emma’s eyes blink closed once again as she drifts off to


sleep.
INT. DARK ROOM - NIGHT
Emma watches herself in the field on a television in a dark
room.
She turns around and looks about the room, only to see
darkness.
Tears form in the corners of her eyes as she turns to face
the television
She tilts her tear-streaked face up towards the light of the
television.

INT. BEDROOM - DAY


Emma’s eyes open wide as a tear rolls down her cheek.
She takes a deep breath and pushes herself out of bed.

She glances back at her bed and releases a sigh of release.


INT. BATHROOM - DAY
Emma hesitates in the doorway to the bathroom.

She steps into the bathroom and looks at her reflection.


It remains still the whole time she is in the bathroom.
Emma cries out in frustration and storms out of the
bathroom.
INT. LIVING ROOM - DAY
Emma grabs a sweater, her wallet and keys, and rushes out
the door.

INT. CAR - DAY


Emma sits in her car and rests her head against the steering
wheel.

She slams her hands against the wheel and puts the key in
the ignition.
EXT. LOOK OUT POINT - DAY
Emma turns her car off and stares out at the view.

All of a sudden she screams at the top of her lungs.


She gets out of the car and slams the door.
She slides against her car door and onto the ground.

Her face turns toward the sun as tears glisten in the fading
light.
As the light fades, she picks herself up and off the ground.

She gets back into her car and drives off.

INT. DARK ROOM - NIGHT


Emma sits in front of the television as images of her in the
field play on screen.
The film burns up and the room is left dark.

INT. BEDROOM - SUNRISE


Emma blinks open her eyes.

She looks at her phone, then attempts to get out of bed.


She gets up, but is then pulled back down.
She stares at the ceiling and lets out a deep sigh.

Her eyes close.


CUT TO BLACK.
