Cartooning - Comic Books, Graphic Novels, and More

What do you know about cartooning? Do you have any favorite comics? Or graphic
novels? How can we tell a story? Let’s look at some examples!
Cartoon- comes from the word caricature which comes from the Italian word
‘caricare’ which means to exaggerate or load
Narrative Art-tells a story can be one image or multiple images.

The Lascaux Caves France, 17,000 years old, deer, horses, and bulls.
Storyboard- a sequence of drawings usually used to plan out a movie or video game.

Parts of a Comic
Panel- squares where the drawings are
Gutter Space- spaces in between panels
Margin Space- space around the panels
Caption- text at the top of panel in a box
Balloons- for speech there are two types a cloud one for thoughts and a bubble one
for speech
Stem- the line from the balloon that shows what character is speaking
