Design of a High rise building

INTRODUCTION

A building with the floor plan attached in figure 1 was selected as a commercial building situated
in the city centre (Investment downtown). The building consists of 35 stories. The Central core
consists of Shear walls, is used to resist the lateral forces and transmit them to the ground from
which the effect of bracings is given to the whole structure. Basic element sizes of the selected
building is given below

Slabs : 225mm thick

Floor beams : 300mm x 500mm

CALCULATION OF NUMBER OF LIFTS

For 1st 15 floors

Usable area =1392m2
No of person per floor = 1243 / 10 = 124 (Investment downtown)
No of person = 124x15= 1860
No of people to be handled in 5 min = 1860 x 14% = 260
Select 28 passenger cars with 25 minute interval

With a car speed of 4m/s

RTT = 150s
No of cars =150/25= 6 => 6 cars required

For Next 10 floors

Usable area =1392m2
No of person per floor = 1243 / 10 = 124 (Investment downtown)
No of person = 124x10= 1240
No of people to be handled in 5 min = 1240 x 14% = 174
Select 20 passenger cars with 25 minute interval

With a car speed of 4m/s

RTT = 100s
Additional time for lower 15 Express floors = 28s
No of cars =(100+28)/25=5.12 => 6 cars required

For last 10 floors

Usable area =1392m2
No of person per floor = 1243 / 10 = 124 (Investment downtown)
No of person = 124x10= 1240
No of people to be handled in 5 min = 1240 x 14% = 174

With a car speed of 4m/s

Additional time for lower 25 Express floors = 45s
No of cars =(100+45)/25=5.8 => 6 cars required
