Limiting the radar scan extent

To reduce the size of the imported radar les you can limit the extent or crop the radar
les. This can only be done when initially importing radar les into a RAP project
(https://support.chiwater.com/79190/rap-project). To limit the extent of the radar les:

1. Open PCSWMM and open or create a new RAP project

2. Click on the Options button and set up the radar processing options (for information
on importing radar data please see our Setting up a RAP project for historical analysis
article (/support/articles/22844-setting-up-a-rap-project-for-historical-analysis-step-
by-step-)).

3. Click on the Real-time Processing tab and use the Extent lter to de ne the
extent you wish to crop your radar les to.

Notes

The 'Limit radar cell rainfall range' parameter

(https://support.chiwater.com/77868/parameter) in the RAP time series options
speci es the maximum and minimum intensities that can be assigned to a radar cell,
this means that if a radar rainfall re ectivity translates to an intensity of 500 mm/hr
PCSWMM would cap this value by the speci ed maximum value, by default 200
mm/hr. This cap or maximum cell intensity is dependent on your area and regional
rainfall.

The 'Maximum number of rain gages' option in the RAP time series options is the
maximum number of gages that can be used for the radar analysis. Generally you can
assign this value to be the same as the number of gages you have in the GIS
(https://support.chiwater.com/77864/gis) layer
(https://support.chiwater.com/77865/layer). The default value
(https://support.chiwater.com/156066/default-value) for this parameter is 10 however
you can use any value. PCSWMM has been changed to now allow the user to user as
many rain gages as they have in their rain gage layer.
