QUARTER 3, WEEK 1

Competencies:
1. Compare and contrast patterns of written texts across disciplines.
2. Evaluate a written text based on its properties (organization, coherence and cohesion, language use and
mechanics).

FACTS:

Pattern of Development –is the logical arrangement of ideas. The pattern helps you follow ideas

ACTIVITY 1:
Read the following. Choose one pattern of development that best matches the statement. You may
choose a pattern more than once.
_________________________________1. I took up the river road as hard as I could put. By and by I
begin to hear guns a good ways off. When I came in sight of the log store and the woodpile where the
steamboats lands I worked along under the trees and brush ‘till I got to a good place, and then I climb
up into the forks of a cottonwood that was out of reach, and watched. - From The Adventures of
Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain.

affectionately, termed by the family, was possessed of a mind rudimentary in its power of observation
and analysis. Self-interest with her was high, but not strong. It was nevertheless, her guiding
characteristic.

which communication can be manifested; it can be a face-to-face interaction, a phone conversation, a
group discussion, a meeting or interview, a letter correspondence, a class recitation, and many
others.
_________________________________4. Freedom is a concept that needs to be understood.
_________________________________5. Hello. My name is Zack and I'm going to give you a few
simple lessons on how to sync Google accounts. I must warn you though; this is for newbies. If you're
at all experienced at this sort of thing, you'll probably find this tutorial a bit of a yawner.
_________________________________6. There are basically two statistical concepts: Descriptive
Statistics and Inferential Statistics.
_________________________________7. At one time or another, most of us have suffered from
nightmares. Nightmares are bad dreams that take place during the deepest level of sleep. They are
usually brief and upon waking can be remembered in detail. Night terrors, however, are a good deal
more anxiety producing. During a night terror, the sleeper experiences a feeling of total panic, and
that panic may last for fifteen or twenty minutes. During this time, the victim may scream or shout in
fear. Usually, however, upon waking, the sleeper only vaguely remembers what caused the terror.
________________________________8. As you might already know, there is no direct intermixing
of blood between a mother and her unborn child. However, some substances—especially drugs—can
still have a powerful effect on the fetus. If, for example, the mother is addicted to morphine, heroin, or
methadone, the baby may be born with the same addiction. For that matter, even high doses of
aspirin appear to have some effect on the fetus. In at least one study, high doses of aspirin have
been linked to lower IQs in infants.
________________________________9. Juvenile delinquency is a social issue that requires urgent
attention.
________________________________10. A healthy morning exercise can be done in five simple
steps.

ACTIVITY 2:
Write a Description Writing Pattern about your experience in Distance Learning Modality. Create a
catchy title. Use a word count limit up to 250 words.

I hate reiny days. I remember reading about my favorite writer from Europe, Mary Shelley. It
rained a lot in 1816…a lot-like everyday, the weather in europe was abnormally wet because it rained
in Switzerland on 130 days out of 183 days from April to September. If I was Mary Shelley I might
decide to write a book too. Afterall, it was the onnly thing you could do without TV or anything. She
said that she “passed the summer of 1816 in the environs of Geneva…we ocassionally amused
ourselves with some german stories of ghosts… These tales excited in us a playful desire of

imitation” So, people were stuck inside and bored. Mary Shelley decided to write a book because it
was so awful outside. I can totally see her point, you know? I guess I would write a novel if there was
nothing else to do.
