CHARACTERISTICS OF AN ENTREPRENEUR (LEADERSHIP/INNOVATION/BUSINESS IDEAS/ROLE


MODELS/ ORANGE ECONOMY)

This workshop attempts to help you understanding the general concepts related to the creation of
a new Company introducing the general vocabulary of startups, investment and venture capitalist,
bearing in mind the strategies needed to initiate a business.

Objective: from the development of this workshop, you will be able to talk about the different
types of startups, the actions to be taken for starting a new business, and the actors involved in
this matter.

1. Work in groups and discuss the following statements:


- Some people say that it is essential to have a large budget to initiate a new business. What
do you think about this idea?

REPLY // of course, you have to have a good budget to start with something more solid and to
be able to have higher profits.

- What’s the difference between a small business and a startup?

REPLY // that the small company is already more formed and fully created with the economic
sector and business more defined and a startup is a company in emergence that is just coming to
market and emerging with its new business market idea.

- Do you have plans to create your own company in the future? What could your company
offer to the market?
REPLY // yes, I would like to have an automobile company where you can do maintenance,
make improvements or buy spare parts and where you can find everything you need.

2. Skills practice: do the following activities to practice the learnt vocabulary and English
structures.
2.1.READING PRACTICE: reading about two famous entrepreneurs.

Before reading the text write the definition of the following words.
ACQUISITION Mentions the fact of earning or obtaining something through one’s
own work or effort
ADAPTABILITY Is a necessary quality in an ever-changing work environment.

COLLABORATION The situation of two or more people working together to create or


achieve the same thing.

BENCHMARK A level of quality that can be used as a standard when comparing
other things.

BUYOUT A situation in which a person or group buys all the shares belonging to
a company and so gets control of it.

LEADERSHIP The set of characteristics that make a good leader.

INNOVATION Is a process that introduces novelties and seeks to modify existing


elements in order to improve them or also to implement totally new
elements.
BUSINESS IDEA The service or product you want to offer, how you will get customers
and how you expect to receive profits from it.
ROLE MODEL A person who someone admires and whose behavior they try to copy.

STAKE A share or a financial involvement in something such as a business.


PROBLEM The process of finding solutions to problems.
SOLVING
ENTREPRENEUR Someone who stars their own business, especially when this involves
seeing a new opportunity.

entrepreneurs and do a list about the mentioned people during this discussion. Organize the
information in the following chart. You can ask questions as follow:
