The author recounts their experience living on a farm for a period of time after always living in a city. At first, the author felt out of their element on the farm, but soon enjoyed interacting with the people and animals as well as activities like milking cows and harvesting crops. The author found rural life was not dull or monotonous as assumed, but filled with new tasks, people, and a sense of living fully each day. In the evenings, the farm workers would chat together enjoying camaraderie. The author ultimately determined they preferred country life over their previous city life and could see themselves owning a small farm in the future, having grown as a person from the experience.

As a person that has lived in a big city for their
whole life, going out of my comfort zone and indulging into the farm life was quite the experience. I can reassure you that it’s not that big of a deal to spend your day out leading the livestock to pasture or sowing the fields.
My main question that i was looking forward to
getting an answer to is whether country life is better than city life, which is probably what you’re wondering as well. At first when I arrived at the farm, that was chosen by the organizers of the project, I felt out of my element. Probably because I’ve been adhering to the monotonous city life for the whole duration of my lifespan up to now. But once I met the people there, walked around the yard and petted the animals I took to it like a duck to water. Also engaging in such activities as milking the cows, harvesting the crops and trimming the sheep’s fur can be quite entertaining and educational. In general husbandry is something that most of the people from the younger generations are not familiar with, and if the opposite they think of it as something that peasants do, which is absolutely erroneous. I can’t relent the fact that rural life is dull and monotonous, it is in fact the other way around. There’s always a new task to get done with, a new obstacle to go around and last but not least new people to meet and befriend. Everyday you wake up with the thirst of living the day to the fullest. Village life is filled with so much excitement and cheerful ventures, although it might be tiring and you might feel drained at the end of the day.
At the evening after everyone’s done with their
work, we sit around the table, chatting about life, sometimes arguing but most of the time we call it a day at a jolly environment.
Now let’s address the elephant in the room.
Which is “Did I find myself preferring country life over city life?” Yes, I relished it a little more than my basic, day-to-day, scheduled life. It certainly opened my eyes to more possibilities that I now see myself as an old lady, owning a little farm in the countryside, nurturing newborn goats, which was something I’ve never thought of hitherto. I as an exponent who wholly supports the idea of agriculture and organic farming, with all my heart, suggest you try it yourself for the sake of experiencing something new so you can sprout as a new person, just like me.
