Lesson Idea Name: The Water Cycle; where does water come from?
Grade Level/Content Area: 4th grade science
Content Standard Addressed: S4E3: S4E3, communicating and demonstrating information
about the water cycle.

Technology Standard Addressed: Knowledge: 3

Guiding question or statement:

Set a goal that you want to achieve with this plan for learning with the use of multi-media tools? Will you
use your video as a sample of what students will design or will you use the video for meaningful learning
about a topic? Be sure to mention what tool you/your students will use:

My goal for creating this video and lesson learning plan was to support student learning by providing
visuals and auditory components to explain and teach about the water cycle. This goal
was important to me in the sense that I can provide more of a visual of nature to students in hopes
they get a better understanding, often times when learning about nature and its processes, it can be
hard to understand since there are a lot of components of nature and its actions we don't get to see.
With my video and lesson plan, students are supported in their learning and understanding through
getting a chance to see the water cycle process as I also explain it with my voice on the video.

Bloom’s Taxonomy Level(s):

☒ Remembering ☒ Understanding ☐ Applying ☐ Analyzing ☒ Evaluating ☐ Creating

Levels of Technology Integration:

☒ Infusion Level: Students may work at a higher Bloom’s Level, but they do not have any “Voice or Choice”
during the activity and most of the decisions are made by the teacher.

☐ Integration Level: We would like to see ALL lessons/activities reach this level. The project is student-
driven. Students have “Voice and Choice” in the activities, selecting the topic of study and determining the
technology tool to demonstrate mastery of the standard. The teacher becomes more of a facilitator.
☐ Expansion Level: The projects created are shared outside of the classroom, publishing student work and
promoting authorship. This could be reached by showcasing the project on the school’s morning
newscast, posting the project to the classroom blog, or publishing via an outside source.

Universal Design for Learning (UDL)

The technology tool I selected for this lesson will support all varieties of students. My lesson plan
uses a free software application called Adobe Spark. Adobe Spark allows you to insert and
edit videos, pictures, sound, etc., in your own way. The video I created and provided allows students
to build an understanding of the water cycle through visual and physical representations provided in
the video, with auditory explain components as well to help support. This lesson enhances students
interests by providing them with pictures and videos, and sound. This lesson includes multimedia
such as text, speech, and video, and audio,

Lesson idea implementation:

The lesson will explore the meaning and ways of the water cycle using an online application called
Adobe Spark. The standard addressed is a 4th grade GA science standard, S4E3: Obtain, evaluate, and
communicate information to demonstrate the water cycle. Students will process information
presented visually and orally.

The lesson will be introduced with a visual of the water cycle explaining what it is. Students will
watch the video provided and then create their own physical representation of the water cycle using
what they learned, with Legos. This activity should be about 30 minutes. Students will be assessed
through a KWL chart prior to the lesson and then concluding the lesson.

Importance of technology: Using multimedia tools like this is important because it provides students
with a foundation to further support more intricate parts of the lesson. This lesson uses technology
to help engage students and get excited about the activity and the learning. Instead of listening to
the teacher talk, they are presented with same information but with added visuals and auditory
components to help them comprehend the content better and with a deeper understanding.

Internet Safety and Student Privacy: While implementing this lesson, students are exposed to the
internet which always could lead to a risk of them posting their private information for anyone to see
or access if posted. To ensure that this does not happen, I have made sure to talk about educate all
students and parents on internet safety rules and the effects of it if not used in the right way and will
be following up on them on all that they do on the internet in this lesson and in my classroom to
ensure their safety.

Reflective Practice: After designing my lesson, I feel as if the activity will impact students through
engagement and STEM content of building the water cycle with Legos, while also learning the steps
of the water cycle and what is happening. Students learn the content information through visuals
and sounds.
