Steam Expo

Online Portion:
- I will plan a portion of the fair which is completely online, given the circumstances with
the pandemic, we might not be able to meet in person to have the EXPO. Even if there are
no issues with the pandemic, an interactive online version of the expo would be great for
those who can’t make it.
● The online system could be done in multiple ways, but what I will be doing is creating a
website in which we have an actual layout of the EXPO, with a birdseye view of the
booths. It will be a virtual EXPO, the visitors will be “walking” (going through the
website) and clicking the booths that seem interesting to them. When the viewer clicks on
one of the “tables” They will be prompted to a video of the presenter, This video can be
included in a slide show that also has written info and an activity related to the booth that
the viewer can do at home.
● Here's a rough layout:

● When the viewer clicks on one of the “tables” They will be prompted to a video of the
presenter, This video can be included in a slide show that also has written info and an
activity related to the booth that the viewer can do at home.

● It will look like this, but with a video as well.

This will take a lot of work as I will have to film, edit, code, and input all of this for the website.
But, with the right plan, which I think I have, it can be executed perfectly and used for other
STEAM fairs in the future.

New Booths:
- I will also be inviting people from multiple UC schools, SSHS alumni, who are involved
in certain STEM related programs to come hold booths. Not only will this allow students
to get an idea of what kids are doing in college, it also advertises our school really well
by showing where some SSHS alumni are going.

Translators:
- At previous STEAM expos, I've come into contact with people who do not
understand english as well, but speak spanish. I plan to invite SSHS students, who
are in AP Spanish to come help translate for them. I’ll work with Profesora
Bonvehi to see which students would be best fit for this sort of job. It would make
the experience for parents, and even children who don’t understand english that
much much better.

New Volunteer Training:

- I want to implement new volunteer training that would allow students to be more
prepared with interaction for those attending. This would be done by teaching volunteers
techniques like AIDET.

There are more ideas, these are just the few main ones i’d like to focus on.

- Organize the event within Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics
aspects more clearly.
- Divided by the subject, more than usual
- Secure the school facilities necessary
-
- Work on involving middle school students early (Priority)
- Contact middle schools early on in the school year with how to get them involved
- Work on contacting local businesses and other businesses for donations/sponsorships
- Contact the groups who have contributed to the STEAM Expo in the past
- Ask specific clubs/groups in school to organize their specifics during the event
- Get in touch with Robotics for what they can offer
- Ask classes to display and/or demonstrate labs and projects
- Leonhardt for Biology
- 3D Printer
- Honors Engineering’s projects and creations
- Create a format for emails to send to the schools and business
- Organize dates for school interest meetings and PTA meetings
- Organize getting flyers done for the event, and distribute them in the community
- Create google forms for interest in volunteering/booths
- Be in contact with whoever is working on the Health Fair for ways to be cohesive, if they
are on the same day

For the STEAM Expo, I will be taking care of everything that is traditionally done, mimicking
past years.
