Discuss the accurateness of polygraph examination result.

The accuracy (i.e., validity of polygraph testing has long been controversial. On the module given it is
said that it relies to the qualified, trained and experienced polygraph examiner. Accuracy of
polygraph results is from 95% to 8%. The American Polygraph Association, which sets standards for
testing, says that polygraphs are “highly accurate,” citing an accuracy rate above 90% when done
properly. Critics, however, say the test are correct only 70% of the time.

Discuss the importance of polygraph instrument in investigation.

The primary purpose of the polygraph test in security screening is to identify individuals who present
serious threats to national security. To put this in the language of diagnostic testing, the goal is to
reduce to a minimum number of false negative cases.

Discuss the things vital to qualify a polygraph examiner.

They must have a bachelor’s degree. He or she must be well trained skillful and with experience
specially in interpreting the graphical result of tests. They also need to obtain a license that they are
certified polygraph examiners.
