Antibacterial Layered Methodology/Working
Ag-Fe Nanocomposite Ÿ Silver-iron layered structure has led to increased surface area
and is highly effective in killing Gram +ve and -ve bacteria.

Problem Identified Application

Ÿ Most antibacterial nanomaterials available in market are silver
Ÿ Coating material ( Food packaging material , Food processing
or titanium based and suffer drawbacks of being toxic and
expensive. equipments)
Ÿ Water Sanitation ( purification) Recyclable .
Ÿ Tedious, multistep protocols and use of harsh chemicals make
the currently available synthesis protocols environmentally Ÿ Effluent treatment to reduce microbial load.
unsafe and unsuitable for large scale industrial production Ÿ Healthcare (Door handles)
Ÿ Most nano-based antibacterials in the market are in their
reduced forms and have shorter shelf life as they oxidise with Merits over existing method/ technology
time and lose their activity.
Ÿ This is an inexpensive, broad-spectrum, rapid and, sensitive
Solution Proposed in terms of layered antibacterial silver iron nanocomposite material made
Technology/process/know how and reported first time .
Ÿ Ease of synthesis, Cheap method and highly effective and non
Ÿ A new type of layered silver iron nano-composite showing broad toxic.
spectrum antibacterial activity (kills 95-99% bacteria Gram +ve
and -ve bacteria)
Patent Status:
Ÿ The amount of silver in the nancomposite is reduced by ~80%,
without affecting its antibacterial property. This has significantly
reduced the cost of the antibacterial material developed here. Patent Granted: Indian Patent No. 349010
Ÿ Low minimum inhibitory concentrations ~ 1.2 μg/ml to 20 μg/ml.
Ÿ Rapid Time of killing -30 minutes to 1 hour (other antibacterial
NPs ~24 hours
Ÿ Non-toxic material.
Ÿ High yields and scalable in industry
Ÿ No toxic reducing agents used for synthesis; makes this material
environmentally-safe and suitable for industries.
Ÿ Economical and 3-step synthesis procedure.
