"System Fuel and Oil", (See Item 104), which must be
included in the empty weight, is that amount required
to fill both systems and the tanks up to the tank outlets
to the engines, when the airplane is in the level attitude.
The propeller feathering oil is not considered usable
oil and ie included in the "System Oil". The nacelle
oil tank capacities shown in this Type Approval include
only usable oil for which the tanks are to be placarded.
All hydraulic system fluid must also be included in the
empty weight of the airplane.
The aircraft shall be operated in compliance with the
operating limitations specified in the approved Canadair
Airplane Flight Manual.
All fuel must be distributed equally on both
aircraft. All main tanks must be filled equally first.
Any fuel in excess of the total capacity of the four main
tanks must be distributed equally between No. 1 and
No. 4 auxiliary tanks until they are full. Any remaining
fuel should be distributed evenly between No. 2 and
No. 3 auxiliary tanks.
des of the
Fuel must be used in the reverse order except for take-
off, climb and landing, at which times the main tanks
must be used.
The zero fuel and oil weight is defined as the maximum
permissible gross weight with zero usable fuel and
zero usable oil in the aircraft. All weight in excess of
the maximum zero fuel and oil weight must consist of
usable fuel and usable oil.

Power plant Modification PP 865 is required when Merlin
724 engines are installed.
This provisional take-off weight is authorized for Trans-
Canada Air Lines! operations where a system of temper-
ature accountability is used which will ensure that the
aircraft will have a three-engine enroute rate of climb
of .04Vso* at an altitude of 5,000 feet at all temper-
atures between standard and "hot day" conditions.
“With manifolds" indicates that Canadair tailpipe
manifolde are fitted to the inboard side of each engine,
and multi-ejector exhausts are fitted to the outboard
side.AIRCRAFT TYPE APPROVAL CANADAIR C-4 and C-4-1 Page 8 of 8 pages
