G3 Talking Diorama Blog
Following Grade 3’s social
studies theme of “early humans,”
the students brought history to
life by applying their artistic skills
and showing their
understanding of the
significance of early humans
using innovative devices such as
Makey Makey®.

G7 Underwater Rov Blog
G7 was engaged a unique experiential
learning when they deepen their
understanding of our ocean by inspecting
and investigating the condition of the
ecosystem of Mo Tat Wan. They designed
and built mechanical extensions for
Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) that was
deployed and retrieved samples or water
and sediment to further G7’s scientific
analysis in the Marine Science Centre.

G1 Thumb Piano Blog
The young makers make good
vibrations in the Foundry as they
enhance their appreciation for
how vibrations create music to
our ears. Thanks to the support
of G1 and TCI teachers, each
student was able to build a
thumb piano using a hammer
and nails safely.

G4 Glowing Art Blog
G4 was introduced to the principle of
electric circuits as they transfer the power
of their understanding to lit up their
drawing with a 3V battery, LED, conductive
tape and copper wire. Wouter created a
teaching tool that allows the student to
interact with an enlarged circuit and to
demonstrate how to map and connect an
a functioning circuit, accompanied with a
switch.

G5 Ocean Sensors Monitor Blog
We extended G5’s Marine Science unit in
authentic-learning and citizen science as
the students plan, design and create ocean
monitor buoys. We focused on developing
skills on problem solving, prototyping and
collaboration. The students designed and
built the buoys, using their knowledge on
different marine ecosystems and
parameters and how to assemble with
different materials using tools.

Did you know Insects provide many
benefits to the ecosystem through
pollination, nutrient cycle, and also as
a food source for birds? This Grade 2
project-based learning experience
allowed students to take action to
help their environment based on
what they learned from their class
science unit “food chains and
ecosystems.”

HS STEAM week Blog
Collaborating with James, the HS
students built furniture using PET
bottles for joints instead of screws and
nails and scrap wood. This project
promotes creativity and sustainability.
The HS are engaged in critical thinking
and problem-solving as they built
innovatively using recycled material
and applying their understanding in
material science.

Harbour Village Blog
The HV visited the Foundry briefly to
create artwork by hammering nails
into balsa wood (with backing of
hardwood). They identified and
created shapes by wrapping colorful
rubber bands around different
numbers of nails. We played a
“counting” game in which they count
the number of nails to wrap the elastic
bands, called out by the teachers.
