1. Scope
This specification applies to all steel reference used as raw material in production.

2. Roles and Responsibilities

- Suppliers are responsible to adhere to the requirement described in this document.

3. Measure the gloss using a glossmeter

Gloss meters are the instruments used to measure the specular reflection of an object or surface in a controlled
and reliable way. The ratio of incident light to reflected light has a direct relationship to specular reflection
that has been used to standardize and measure gloss.

Gloss is measured by directing a beam of light to the surface and quantifying the reflected light. The angle of
light and the method by which the reflectance is measured are determined by the surface and the appearance
of the surface to be measured. Gloss is measured in Gloss Units GU.

4. Why are there different angles to measure gloss?

The measuring and

reflection angles of the
gloss meters
commonly used in
industry are 20º, 60º
and 85º.

The basic angle of a gloss is 60º, while the 20º angle is used for glossy materials and the 85º angle is used to
measure gloss in materials with a matte finish.

• 60º usual angle

• 20º> 70 at an angle of 60º
• 85º <10 at an angle of 60º

At Kingspan Colombia we require that the steel used as raw material comply with a level of gloss less than
20 GU measured at 60 ° on the internal side (Back Side), therefore, we request to comply with the following:

1. Check the gloss level on the Back side (less than 20 GU at 60 °).
2. Perform measurements with equipment that meets the proper angle, which corresponds to 60 °
3. Take 3 different points per coil in the width of the steel: left side, right side and centre.

5.1 Gloss measurement procedure in Kingspan Colombia

Equipment Used: Glossmeter for measuring gloss on surfaces PCE-SGM 60

1. Clean the surface of the standard sample and sample to be tested: carefully clean the surface of the
samples, ensuring that they are not tarnished, dusty, with liquids or any type of residue that could
generate an error in the test result.

2. Press and release the Power button on the Gloss Meter to turn it on.

Power button

3. Press the power button with the cover on for calibration. Must result in 101.3 GU

4. Place the uncovered instrument on the side to be measured and perform the measurement by pressing
the power button. Record the reading.

6. Additional request

Kingspan Colombia requires the submission of previous samples for validation and approval.

In case of not sending the samples before approval, we request photographic evidence of the measurements
carried out in compliance with our established parameter (less than 20GU at 60 °), as well as the specification
of the equipment used with its calibration certificate.
