• ASRAAM
• Imaging infrared seeker
Advanced Short Range Air-to-Air Missile
• Long acquisition range MISSILE CHARACTERISTICS
• Unprecedented countermeasure resistance • Weight: 88 kg (195 lbs)
• Length: 2.9 m (114 inch)
ASRAAM, the Advanced Short Range Air-to-Air Missile, is in service with the Royal Air • Redefines WVR combat Inertial sensor • Diameter: 0.166 m (6½ inch)
Force as their primary Within Visual Range (WVR) missile. The missile is also in full • 3-axis fibre optic gyro

aircraft. Fully integrated onto the RAF Tornado F3 and Typhoon fleet, ASRAAM is • First intercept
undergoing integration onto the RAF's Tornado GR4 and the F-35 Lightning II Joint Strike • Proven high reliability and faster missile launch
Fighter. • First Kill
Fuzing and Warhead
In short-range air combat, the ability to strike first is vital. A pilot engaging an enemy • Impact and laser proximity fuzes maximise lethality against both large and small targets
needs a missile that reacts more rapidly than ever before, and has the speed and agility • High lethality blast fragmentation warhead
to ensure maximum kill potential regardless of evasive manoeuvres or the deployment of
countermeasures. Rocket Motor
• Low signature
ASRAAM can engage any target you can see… as well as the ones that you can’t.
• Outstanding acceleration and range capability
ASRAAM will accept target information via the aircraft sensors, fuzing data from such
• Quickest intercept

search and track system.
Due to ASRAAM’s large rocket motor – the biggest in its class - the missile’s high speed
combined with an accurate thermal imaging system ensure the highest kill probability
against any aircraft target.
ASRAAM provides the 21st Century warfighter with the ideal passive self protection
weapon and, in an age of emerging threats, ASRAAM gives the vital survivability edge.
Launch
• Instantaneous cueing from aircraft sensors
• All round target designation
• Instant response to trigger press
