Overview
This procedure provides instructions for removing and replacing the Workstation UPS.

Prerequisites
The Workstation must have a PS4 electronics box power supply installed and not a PS1 & PS2
electronics box power supply in order for the new UPS to fit mechanically. If PS1 & PS2 is currently
installed, install a PS1 & PS2 to PS4 Replacement Kit prior to installing the new Eaton 5SC1000i-Z3
UPS Replacement Kit. (See 9900 Illustrated Parts Manual for the part number).

Safety
CAUTION: This instruction is for use by qualified personnel. Adequate system knowledge is
required to accurately interpret some of the terms and instructions contained herein.

Note: Do not attempt to service or maintain this equipment before reading this entire publication.

Note: Safety glasses and safety shoes are required when performing any installation, servicing, or
maintenance of equipment.

CAUTION: Follow all LockOut/TagOut (LOTO) procedures.


CAUTION: Observe proper ESD protection measures when handling all electronic components.

Kit Installation
1. Unplug the system and disconnect the interconnect cable.
2. Remove the Workstation rear cover.
3. Remove the two Workstation lower side covers.
4. Remove the Workstation front cover.
5. Open the electronics box door.
6. If present, remove the NAV shelf and front cover bracket. Discard shelf, bracket and screws.

7. If the Workstation has a UPS front corner bracket, remove the two 8-32 x ⅜" screws that
secure it to the UPS bottom mounting bracket. Discard the front corner bracket and screws.

8. Ensure the UPS power is off.


9. Remove the two 8-32 x ⅜" screws that secure the UPS retaining bracket to the front of the
UPS bottom mounting bracket.

10. Move the UPS to the right to access and disconnect all cables and plugs from the back of
the UPS.

11. Disconnect the white/yellow wire cable from J12 on the ISD board and discard. This cable is
no longer used.

12. Remove the UPS from the Workstation.

13. Remove the two 8-32 x ½” screws that secure the left side of UPS bottom mounting bracket
and the two 8-32 x ⅝” screws that secure the right side of the UPS bottom mounting bracket
and surge suppressor board.
14. Remove the UPS bottom mounting bracket with the attached UPS retaining bracket from the
system.
15. Remove the two 8-32 x ⅜" screws that secure the UPS retaining bracket to the back of the
UPS bottom mounting bracket. Set the screws aside and discard the removed UPS bottom
mounting bracket.

16. Obtain the replacement UPS bottom mounting bracket (5641333) from the kit. Install the UPS
retaining bracket onto the UPS bottom mounting bracket as shown below using the two 8-32
x ⅜" screws that were set aside.

17. Place the new UPS bottom mounting bracket with the attached UPS retaining bracket into
the Workstation as shown below.

18. Using the previously removed 8-32 x ½” screws, secure the left side of UPS bottom mounting
bracket and the previously removed 8-32 x ⅝” screws, secure the right side of the UPS
bottom mounting bracket and surge suppressor board.

19. Obtain the new UPS from the kit. Slide the UPS onto the UPS bottom mounting bracket and
connect the USB, AC Input and AC output cables as shown below.

20. Remove the UPS front cover by pulling out the bottom of the cover and then lifting up.
21. Connect the UPS batteries as shown below and reinstall the UPS front cover.
Caution: A slight spark may occur when connecting the batteries.

22. Once the batteries are connected and UPS front cover is reinstalled, slide the UPS until the
UPS feet fit into the holes in the bottom mounting bracket.

23. Secure the UPS by installing the two 8-32 x 3/8” Torx screws through the UPS retaining
bracket to the UPS bottom mounting bracket.

24. Open the electronics box door.


25. Obtain the new UPSCI board (5589836-01) from the kit and install it into the fourth position
from the right using the 6-32 x ½” screw (12-225106-06) in the kit.

26. Unplug the USB cable from the port on the GPOS board (located at J22 at the inside top of the
electronics box) and plug it into the new UPSCI board as shown below.
Note: There are two styles of USB connections on the GPOS board.

27. Obtain the new USB cable (5723887) from the kit and plug the USB-A connector into the port
that was left open on the GPOS board in the previous step.
28. Plug the USB-B end of the cable into the new UPSCI board as shown below.

29. Plug the Workstation power cord into the outlet.


30. Press the UPS power button on the UPS front panel for at least 2 seconds.

31. Verify that the UPS ON indicator illuminates solid.

Update System Software


1. Update the system software to version 7.0.60 or 7.0.59 as described in the 9900 Service
Manual using the software CD included in the kit.

Test
1. Turn off the Workstation by pressing the green power button on the front of the Workstation.
Ensure that the system goes through a controlled shutdown. This is indicated by a screen on
the right monitor with the message shutdown is in progress.

2. Wait 10 seconds, press the same green power button, and allow the system to boot.

3. Once the system is at full boot, unplug the power cord from the outlet and verify that power
is NOT lost to the Workstation (C-Arm will shut off) and that a warning screen appears on the
Workstation’s right monitor. The warning should tell you that you have 20 seconds or less to
restore power to the system. Do NOT restore power to the system. Watch the countdown to
make sure it counts down and ensure that the system goes through a controlled shutdown.
Verify that the low UPS battery message does not appear during the shutdown process. After
the system shuts down, look at the UPS front panel and verify that the UPS turns off within
approximately 30 seconds of the Workstation shutdown.

4. Reset the green power button to the OFF position, wait 10 seconds, plug the power cord into
the outlet and then then press the green power button to turn the system back on.

5. Verify that the system functions as intended.

Finish
1. Replace the existing software CD on the back of the Workstation with the new CD
00-888260-17 or 00-888260-16 (China Only) that was used to load software to the system.

2. Destroy previous versions of the CD 00-888260-XX that are with the system.

3. Reinstall and close all removed covers.

4. Discard the removed or unused parts per applicable procedures.
