1. INTRODUCTION
1.1 General
Implementation of government programs related to kerosen replaced with LPG at the Java
Island. Therefore, PT.Pertamina (Persero) must develop facilities as supporting distribution
process. PT. Pertamina (Persero) is planning to build a dock facility with a vessel leaning
maximum capacity of 25000 DWT, for tanker facilities that will supply LPG at LPG terminal
Balongan, submarine pipeline facility that will transfer LPG received through tanker to
Spherical tank. PT. Pertamina (Persero) also planning to build 3 (three) a LPG Spherical tan
with capacity of 3000 MT.

1.2 Objective
The objective of this report is to present the mooring analysis for “PLB ALEA KEREN"
during shorepull pipeline 6” and 16” operation.

1.3 Definition of Terms


The following words if found elsewhere inthis document shall have the meaning as follow:

3.1 Summary
From the analysis, PIPELAY BARGE “ALEA KEREN” is able to hold her position under
the stipulated environment for the “all lines intact” and “one line damaged” cases. The
summarized results of whole mooring analysis line tension are shown in Table 4.1 and 4.12.
For more detail, please refer to the analysis output in the Appendix F.

4.1 Vessel Details and Conditions
The properties of ALEA KEREN PALOPO and her mooring systems describes as follows:

Depth : 3.66 m

4.2 Mooring Equipment


a. Cable Properties

PIPELAY BARGE “ALEA KEREN” is currently equipped with an eight (8) points
mooring system. Based on the latest condition, this mooring operation will use 38mm dia.
Steel Wire Rope. The mooring lines have the following characteristics: -
Mooring lines diameter : 38mm dia. 6 x 36 Drawn Galvanized IWRC Steel Wire Rope
MBL of mooring line : 92.8MT

b. Holding Power of Anchoring System

Stockless Anchor with dry weight of 5MT will be used for this operation. Based from
reference of bore log the majority is indicate soft clay, but it is also observed that there are
a few logs which indicate a top veneer of sandy soil with fragments and some with layered
soils.

6. ACCEPTANCE CRITERION
6.1 Mooring Lines Tension Requirement
Safety factor for the mooring lines, defined as the ratio between the line minimum breaking
load (92.8 MT) and the actual line tension for quasi-static analysis, are to be maintained
within the allowable limits specified by API RP 2SK, which are given in table below.

6.2 Anchor Holding/Uplifting


As per API RP 2SK, Traditional drag embedment anchors were initially used for mobile
mooring operations. Drag embedment anchor technology has advanced considerably in recent
years. Engineering and testing indicate that the new generation of fixed fluke drag
embedment anchors develop high holding power even in the soft soil conditions. High
efficiency drag embedment anchor is generally considered to be an attractive option for
mooring applications because of its easy installation and proven performance.

As stated by API for the Intact Condition, required anchor holding safety factor (typical mud
seafloor) shall be minimum equal to 1.0 for temporary mooring. In other words, the line

tension at the anchor is required not to exceed the holding capacity, otherwise the anchor will
drag. However, this anchor holding safety factor is not required for damaged and transient
condition analysis.

7. ANALYSIS METHODOLOGY
The mooring analysis is performed using Ultramarine's Program, "MOSES". A quasi-static
(frequency domain) approach is adopted for this mooring analysis.

Using available vessel documents, the following basic input data are generated for the
MOSES program:
• Hull input offsets generated using the vessel’s Lines Plan to capture the underwater hull
form.
• Identify the environment loads of wave, wind and current from the available environment
data or met-ocean data.
• Environment loads will work on calculated wind areas and underwater hull areas which
are calculated from the vessel General Arrangement and values input into “MOSES” to
calculate the corresponding forces.

The technical properties of the mooring lines, in terms of their respective pattern, make-up
and stiffness characteristics are then modelled into MOSES.

Interfacing all the input data and program commands, the following are generated by
“MOSES”:
• Respond Amplitude Operators (RAO)
• Added Inertia Coefficient
• Linear Radiation Damping Coefficient
• Linearised Wave Frequency Forces
• Wave Drift Force
• Line Forces
• Vessel Excursion
• Forces acting on the vessel

A copy of the “MOSES” output files are shown in Appendix F.

7.1 Description of Computer Program "MOSES"


"MOSES", an acronym for Multi-Operational Structural Engineering Simulator, is a
simulation and analysis program for analysing the ocean performance of systems of floating
bodies. The program accepts a description of a model (vessel) to perform either static,

frequency domain or time domain simulations. "MOSES" has been utilised to generate barge
hydrostatics, ballasting, stability and mooring analysis in the generation of sea keeping results
in irregular seas.

8. MOORING ASSESSMENT CRITERIA


The capability of a mooring system to hold a vessel in the desired position is measured by the
following criteria:-
1) The maximum allowable tension of the mooring line from the viewpoint of Minimum
Breaking Load (MBL) – i.e. the load that would cause the line to break.
2) The maximum allowable horizontal force on the mooring line that would cause anchor
uplift.
3) The maximum allowable horizontal force on the mooring line that would exceed the
allowable anchor holding power.

8.1 All Lines Intact Condition


For the Intact condition, the maximum allowable anchor line (38 mm dia. wire) tension is
46.4 MT within safety factor of 2.0 (50% of MBL), in accordance with API RP 2SK.
The maximum allowable tension for all lines is referring to AppendixE and analysis results
summary of the mooring line & vessel “All Lines Intact” condition are shown in below table.

8.2 One Line Damaged Condition


For the damaged condition, the maximum allowable anchor line (38mm dia. wire) tension is
64.96MT within safety factor of 1.43 (70% of MBL), in accordance with API RP 2SK.

As per API RP 2SK, the maximum angle that the mooring line makes with the seabed line
must not be more than 20 degrees for the “one-line-damaged” condition when operating in
soft clay soil.

However, for conservative reason to select criteria of not more than 5-degree mooring line
angle to the seabed line for the “one-line-damaged” condition.

The maximum allowable tension for all lines to anchor uplift viewpoint, is referring to
AppendixF.

An analysis results summary of the mooring line & vessel excursion “One Line Damaged”
condition are shown in Table 8.1 up to Table 8.12.
