Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman

Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the father of the nation, is the architect of
independent Bangladesh.

He was born on 17 March,1920 in Gopalganj. His father was Sheikh Lutfur Rahman and his
mother was Sayera Khatun.

He had a passion for football before he actively engaged in students’ movement and
politics. He cleared Matriculation in 1942 and graduated from Kolkata Islamia College. In
1948, he was admitted to the law department of Dhaka University.
Mujib started his political life in 1940 by joining the “All India Muslim Students Federation”.
In 1943, he joined the Muslim League.
Then he left the Muslim League to join in the formation of “Awami Muslim League”. In 1966,
he became president of the party.
The Awami League, under the leadership of Bangabandhu, won an absolute majority in the
1970 general election in response to the 6-point movement of Bangabandhu proposed by
him in 1966.
In the historic speech on March 7, he told everyone to get ready for the freedom struggle.
After the genocide of March 25, he declared the independence of Bangladesh in the early
hours of March 26, which resulted in the independence of Sonar Bangla in a bloody 9-month
war.

He was the first president of independent Bangladesh. Also, he was the first Bengali to
address the UN in Bengali, through which our mother tongue has stood tall in the world
court.

He is our pride.
