Abstract- Wireless communication provides low-cost, high-speed and exible communication in

present days. Hence antenna plays a vital role in the wireless communication sector. The main
concern of this paper is therefore to design a 3.4 GHz rectangular Microstrip patch antenna.
Moreover, the feed probe based rectangular patch antenna will be designed. The performance of
the designed rectangular patch antenna will be evaluated by analysing the major parameters of
the simulation results. Hence the radiation pattern, gain, impedance matching and re ection
coe cient or return loss calculation will be executed by the HFSS software to evaluate the
performance of the antenna.

Introduction

Aim behind the research paper is to design a rectangular patch antenna for 3.4 GHz frequency.
Due to low cost and small size patch antenna is the best solution for wireless communications.
Di erent kinds of designing methods are talked about in this research paper, such as position of
feed probe, length and width is calculated by a MATLAB code. Based on those parameters the
designing is done usingg HFSS.Finally, the re ection coe cients and radiation pattern will be
analyzed in the results analysis section to evaluate the performance of the designed antenna for
3.4 GHz frequency.

Methodology

Author designs the antenna in 4 basic steps.

1) Calculate Length, Width and Feed Probe (yo) by MATLAB code.

2) Antenna Design by HFSS based on these parameters.

3) De ne E plane boundary and introduce air interface in the model in HFSS.

4) Result analysis and performance evaluation of the designed antenna for 3.4 GHz.

Result and Analsysis

Length, Width and feed probe were calculated by MATLAB code and were converted to
Centimeters since CGS units are used in HFSS. An important factor is Characteristics Impedance,
due to displacement of feed probe, characteristics impedance could vary. Which ultimately
degrades the performance of the system. The best impedance achieved is 52Ω against ideal of
50Ω. After this, the gain of the electric and magnetic plane with corresponding angles were
calculated and compared for both H plane and E plane.

Conclusion

the feed probe in the accurate position provides a low return loss and desired gain in case of
rectangular feed probe antenna. As a result, the designed rectangular Microstrip patch antenna
provided convincing results for the low amount of return loss (around -25 dB) and much higher
gain value (around 7.7 dBi) without unexpected back lobes at 3.4 GHz frequency, which ful lled
the requirements of the antenna design. These results also represent a substantial performance of
the rectangular patch antenna for 3.4 GHz wireless communication systems.
