The Five Pillars of NJHS

1. Scholarship
Students must have a 3.6 GPA or higher on the 7th grade first semester report card (January)

2. Service
“Service before self” is the motto of NJHS.
Students should enjoy helping their school and community, without compensation. The minimum service
requirement is 20 hours during the 8th grade year, 10 of which MUST benefit Waldon. Applicants should
be prepared to commit time both during and after school hours.

3. Leadership
Resourceful, good problem solver, idea contributor… do these words describe you?
Are these qualities that you consistently demonstrate in all of your classes?
Your teachers at Waldon will share their observations with the NJHS membership committee.

4. Character
A student of good character is cooperative, demonstrates high standards of honesty and reliability, shows
courtesy, concern, and respect for others and generally maintains a clean disciplinary record.
Your teachers at Waldon will share their observations with the NJHS membership committee.
Applicants may NOT have any IN or OUT of school suspensions during 7th grade.
Applicants may NOT have any 7th grade discipline referrals to the principals.
Detentions and report card comments indicating needed improvements may also have an impact.

5. Citizenship
The student who demonstrates citizenship understands the importance of civic engagement, has a high
regard for freedom and justice, respects the U.S. form of government, and respects the law for all citizens
at the local, state, and federal levels. The student demonstrates mature participation and responsibility in
activities such as scouting, community organizations, or school clubs.

The Waldon NJHS membership committee will evaluate all applications.

Students must meet ALL FIVE PILLARS in order to be accepted in NJHS.
If accepted into NJHS, students are expected to maintain the above expectations throughout their 8th
grade year. Failure to do so will result in dismissal. Attendance at NJHS meetings is mandatory, as is
participation in some school events where volunteers are needed.
