HED: Red Hacker rules the
court in Big Rapids!
Red Hacker Basketball is the premiere,
fully functional and completely mobile
basketball tournament for all ages. And
on Sept. 17, it’s coming to Downtown Big
Rapids!
Red Hacker travels across the
country, primarily through out the
Midwest and provides an outlet for
basketball enthusiasts to participate
in an actual bracket style tournament
organized by age and gender as well
as skill level. Red Hacker began as the
dream of Redford “Red” Maust in the
thumb of Michigan in the early 1990’s.

of Transportation will be holding
an “Open House” at the Mecosta

for addressing the flooding on M-20
south of Mecosta at Schrader Creek.
They do not as of yet have the funding
for the project, but the plans are ready
for public review. Personnel from MDOT
will be available to answer questions.
The format will be relatively informal
and you are welcome to drop in any
time during those hours. This is a costly
project and will result in road closure
when it happens so I encourage all
interested residents to show up and get
your questions answered.
The Risk of Roaches: How to
Keep Your Home Allergen Free

wheezing that could only mean allergy
season is around the corner. But before that good blood flow is essential for foot

Seal the entrances. Close off cracks
and holes around utility pipes that
provide easy access to your home.
Act quickly. If you find evidence of
an infestation, contact a licensed pest
professional to inspect and treat the

Awareness Month With a Brisk
Walk
(NewsUSA) - A walk in the fresh April
air is an ideal way to participate in Foot
Health Awareness Month.
“Walking is great exercise for the
feet,” said Robert Zwolak, MD, president
of the Society for Vascular Surgery. Both
podiatrists and vascular surgeons agree

by using smaller plates. The larger the
plate, the more food you’re likely to put
on it -- and the more you are likely to eat.
* Be a role model. Learn about portion
control, read labels and look for smaller
packages of your favorite foods. “No
one ever said you need to give up
the foods and drinks you love to be
healthy, but you just need to enjoy them
in moderation,” says Alisa Winters, a
registered dietitian. Many companies
offer portion-controlled options to help
manage calorie intake. For example,

can for quenching smaller thirsts.
* Put down your fork. Slow down
and enjoy your meal. Take time to
concentrate on what you eat and really
taste the flavors and feel the textures of
