Hartwell still liked what he saw with a freshman
and a senior stepping up. Dine at the “O”
“We did have some key people step up,” he said.
“What was exciting this weekend we had a freshman,
Tatum Nyquist, hit .571. She went 4 for 7. And we 228-8006
had a senior that went .500. Alexys Mann went 4 for
8. So we had a good mix of young girls stepping up,
but then again we had our senior leadership also
step up. So that was exciting to see.”
Some of the girls put in time during the
off season. But it is hard to dedicate full time to
one sport when some of them play volleyball and
basketball.
“You could tell the girls that put in some work
during the off-season,” said Hartwell. “We had a
couple of girls go to a camp and we had some that
went to team camps. Unfortunately that was at the
end of the summer and I could only take the girls
that didn’t go to volleyball camp.”
Hartwell has four seniors – Mann, Davyn
Myrick, Meranda Bechel, and Elizabeth Nyquist,
who has not played since her freshman season. He
also has one junior, and then the rest are sophomores
and freshmen.
“When I was looking at my line up for last
weekend I was looking at nine players and only
two of them had worn a Scotty jersey before,” said
Hartwell.
The sophomores lost that one year of varsity
experience due to that virus.
