WITCHCRAFT

A COMPREHENSIVE GUIDE TO THE FOUR ELEMENTS

June 21, 2020

Have you ever felt like you had trouble reconnecting to the elements and your magic?

Sometimes there is so much information about how to reconnect that we can often get lost on where to start.

When you understand how the elements are connected to each other and to you, you can draw on them for your magic and help you
in any work that you do.

The four elements in witchcraft and many occult practices are known as the elements of Earth, Air, Fire, and Water. These are
considered the “building blocks” of magic and in some Wiccan practices the “hands and feet” of the God and Goddess.

These elements are especially sacred to me because I understand and see how they all fit together to create a balanced and
harmonious flow to my life.

Having an understanding of what these energies are and how they interact with us and our world is the first step to being able to
draw on them for our intentions and manifestations of magic.

Occasionally when we feel out of balance with a particular element there are activities and exercises we can do to bring that
element back into alignment.

The Element of Earth

The Earth Element is the foundation of the elements and gives all the other elements room to play, flourish, and grow. The Earth
holds space and facilitates the other Elements.

Whatever you plan to build, the foundational Earth element is where I like to start with my magic.

Water collects into the Earth’s spaces and flows and shapes Earth accordingly. Fire has a safe space in the Earth to dance and
breathe. The Air tickles across the Earth and provides an atmosphere for the Earth to grow forth.

Activities to Reconnect
There are several ways you can reconnect with the Earth Element. Most of the time taking a walk at a park or mini forest area will
do the trick. Taking notice of the ground beneath you, the quality and texture of it. The scent of tilled dirt and the feel of a garden
growing.

Performing a meditation on putting down roots and grounding your self to the feeling of stability and gravity.

The key with Earth is to surround yourself with growing things, sounds of nature, and the scent and feel of herbs, spices, and dirt.

Putting together a sachet or spell jar is a great way to re-ground and settle into the foundation that is the Earth Element.

Putting together a crystal grid can also be very grounding.

The Element of Air

The element of Air is all about reconnecting with your mind and creative processes. It’s the act of reflection and thinking and
puzzling through something. The element of Air has a quick pace and is about building momentum for moving forward.

The Air is lively and dances along our planet causing the Water to stir, the Fire to breathe, and helps pollinate the flora for our Earth.

Take a stroll in nature on a breezy day. Notice how the wind brushes over you when you turn a corner of a building or tree. The Air
Element is really good about refreshing your aura, especially on a spring or fall day.

If you can’t be outside, open the windows or turn on some fans to get the energy stirring in your home again.

Since Air is part of the mind and intuition, take time to practice your Tarot or doing something creative for the fun of it. Dancing and
singing are great ways to get the body and lungs involved in reconnecting.

The Element of Fire

Fire is the element of transformation, heat, and light. Reconnecting with the element of fire and its magic is about becoming active
and transformative. Fire is a highly active element and has to do with leadership, power, and drive. Fire is considered an unusual
element simply because we can observe it actively breathe, “eat”, and dance.

Fire is given life by Air. The Earth provides a base and grounding space for it to be. While Water helps temper Fire’s destructive
power.

starting point for this element.

Brew your favorite spiced tea or coffee to get the energy sparked within you.

Fire is about passion, drive, and intensity, activities that cause you to sweat or build up internal energy is a great way to reconnect.

The Element of Water

When we are working on reconnecting with the elements and magic practices, Water can help us learn to go with the flow and tap
into our deepest feelings. Even when those feelings are painful and make us cry.

This element is in constant motion, but is focused on slow and steady movement. Where the Air element is about speed and
momentum, water is about the slow progression of life. Water cleanses the Earth’s surface. Water is a counterpart to Fire. Where Fire
boils and transforms Water, Water can temper Fire’s heat.

To reconnect with the element of water, find activities that involve emotion, flow, and cleansing. Making tea, blending essential oils,
and creating bath rituals are all great starting points for reconnecting to water.

The best bath ritual I’ve found is when you have a chance to bring all the elements together. So crystals, some candles, and herbs and
salts in your bath is the perfect way to cleanse your energy and bring yourself back into balance.

It can take some time when you are reconnecting with the elements and their magics.

When you understand how the elements are connected to each other and to you, you can draw on them for your magic and help you
in any work that you do.

These Elements are the building blocks of magic and are great guides when you are trying to manifest something specific in your
