Senior Project Reflection

Throughout this project, I spent a total of about 28 hours shadowing, building my

product, creating my website, and presentations. I had spent 20 of those hours

shadowing, about one hour creating my final product, about 5 hours creating the

website and presentation, and about two hours creating the research essay.

Some challenges I encountered during this project was during the summer I had

a seizure which then by law I could not drive for 6 months so I had to find a ride to Titan

Machinery to shadow. Another challenge I faced was trying to find the time to do

everything, with not being able to drive I had to find a time that worked for me and my

mom, who drove me to Titan Machinery, once I was able to drive I went back to working

on the farm so trying to find time to build my product and still get work done on the farm

was difficult.

For this project, I tried to manage my time the best that I could but with the many

medical appointments, this started to become difficult. I tried to set my own deadlines

before my appointments so I didn’t have to worry about the work while at the doctor’s

office. I think the hardest deadline to meet though was the presentation itself with trying

to get it done before easter to spend it with my family instead of doing homework.
From my job shadowing experience I learned a lot. We went a lot into the

hydraulics of a tractor and how to change and adjust them. I also learned how to take

out the sieves. The last thing I learned was some basic maintenance on a combine.

These are all important things that I can use in my future.

Over the 20 hours that I shadowed I learned many things about farm equipment.

I will be attending LATC for the diesel technician program and hope to use what I

learned shadowing as a head start to the program. After I graduate I hope to stay at the

family farm and use everything that I have learned from the shadowing and from future

schooling to be able to work on my own equipment at the family farm.
