Dalloway we see a common theme of depression, particularly in Clarissa
Dalloway's characters. For eg, we see throughout the whole novel that Clarissa has many prejudiced feelings and that everyone but herself and her political parties have rather shallow views on society. One example is her view on faith, as we can see from a young age. Clarissa witnesses her sister's death and curses the heavens for having done this awful thing. A negative perspective on life is not because people in the world are good, but since people are expected to do good things it is the only thing that people are doing good things. The views of Clarissa on the people are often cynical, for instance, her opinion on the man William Bradshaw, as she sees him as a poor man. She believes he's seeking to manipulate the poor instead of empowering them. She thinks also that he is a scientist and should not take into account his views of patients in science trials.
