Identify if the two events is mutually exclusive or Inclusive then find the
probability. (3 points – solution, 2 points – final answer)
1. At a teacher’s department meeting, there are six mathematics professors,
eight computer science professors, and four statistics professors. If a
professor is selected at random to conduct the meeting, find the probability
that the professor is either
a. A mathematical professor or a statistics professor
b. A computer science professor or a statistics professor

2. On a particular day, a business receives 20 pieces of mail, eight are first

class letters, nine are ads, and three are magazines. If a piece of mail is
selected at random, find the probability that it is either
a. An ad or magazine
b. A first class letter or an ad

3. At a sales meeting, there were 15 men and 24 women. Eight of the men and
10 of the women were selected to sell a new product. If a salesperson were
selected at random, find the probability that the salesperson was a female,
or a person who was selected to sell a new product.

4. When a card is selected at random from a 52 card deck, find the probability
that the card is a face card or club.
5. A die is rolled. Find the probability that the result is a number divisible by 3
or a number less than 4.

6-9. Tell whether the events are dependent or independent. Write your
answer on the line. (1 point each)

6. One tossed coin landing heads and the next landing tails. dependent
7. Rolling two sixes in a row on a number cube dependent

8. Drawing a red tile from a bag and then drawing a green tile independent
after replacing the first tile

9. Drawing a blue tile from a bag and then drawing a red tile without independent
replacing the first tile

10-12.These problems refer to rolling a number cube, then spinning a spinner

with the letters A-H on it. Find each probability. Write your solution at the
back and your final answer on the line. (3 points – solution, 2 points – final
answer)

10. P(rolling a 2, spinning an A) P(rolling a 2)

Sulotion:

11. P(rolling an even number, spinning a vowel) P(rolling an even number)

Sulotion:
12. P(rolling a number less than 3, spinning a consonant) P(rolling a number less
than 3) Sulotion:

13-16. Tell whether the events are independent or dependent and then find
each probability. There are 5 gray, 4 red, 5 white, 2 green, and 2 navy
marbles in a hat. Write your solution on the space provided then box the
final answer. (3 points – solution, 2 points – final answer)

13. P(red, not green) with replacement

14. P(navy, white) without replacement

15. P(gray, gray) with replacement

16. P(gray, gray) without replacement

17-19. You roll a cube with the numbers 13, 16, 18, 20, 22, and 24 on it.
You then spin a spinner which has 6 sections. The letters on the spinner are
E, B, G, K, D, and H. Find each probability. Show your solution on the space
provided then box the final answer. (3 points – solution, 2 point – final answer)

19. P(not even number, B or D)

20-22. Suppose that two M&M’s are drawn from a bag of M&M’s that contains
5 green M&M’s, 8 brown M&M’s, 6 red M&M’s, 4 orange M&M’s and 9 blue
M&M’s. The first M&M is replaced before the second M&M is drawn. Find
each probability. Write your solution on the space provided then box your
final answer. (3 points – solution, 2 points – final answer)
