ARCHITECTURAL ELEMNTS COMPARISONS OF BAMBERG AND SEVILLE CATHEDRAL

Bamberg Cathedral (Romanesque Architecture) Seville Cathedral (Gothic Architecture)

Geometry Comparison
Bamberg Cathedral is to be observed with it’s However, Seville Cathedral is to be overved with
simplier exterior geometry. It’s plan is easily more complex exterior geometry. It’s plan is rather
distinguished with rectangular nave, round hard to distinguish, but the geometry still associates
with rectangular and round parts seen at it’s exterior

Campanile and Spire Comparison


Bamberg Cathedral has it’s twin campanile located Also known as Giralda, originally built as minaret,
at both sides of the cathedral. It’s campaniles are then turned into bell tower for Seville Cathedral. It is
rectangular and vertically constructed with it’s rectangular and vertically contructed. However,
spire being built long, pointed and slender. unlike Bamberg Cathedral’s campaniles, the spire is
not built as sharply as the former.

Interior, Arches and Ornament Comparison


Bamberg Cathedral uses roman round arches in it’s Seville Cathedral varied its pointed arcades and it’s
interiors. It is simply ornated with enough height of long supported columns, making the interior very tall
it’s interior, but not high enough nor ornated enough inside. It is very ornated, and probabbly more than
in comparison to Gothic Cathedral’s interiors. the former.
