FTP

stands for file transfer protocol, it enables an internet user to move file from one computer to another
computer on the internet. A file contain an information like text document, images, sound, movies. ftp is
also responsible for uploading and downloading a file from remote computer.

By using FTP service, file can transfer in following manner-

1. A user executes the ftp command on his/her local computer , specifying address of the remote
computer as a parameter .
2. An ftp process running on user’s computer establishes a connection with ftp process running on
remote computer
3. The system then asks the user to enter his/her login name and password on the remote
computer to ensure that the user is authorized to access the remote computer
4. After successful login, desired file are downloaded and uploaded

ftp service is also used for more secure file transfer operations. In such cases , a user needs a valid
username and password to access a particular computer

TELNET

stands for telecommunication network. It enables user to log in to another computer on the internet
from his/her computer. A user can executes the telnet command on his/her local computer to start a
login session on a remote computer. To start a login session , a user types the command telnet and
address of the remote computer on his/her local computer terminal.

After that the remote computer authenticates the user to ensure that the user is authorized or not. It
authenticate it by asking login name and password. If user enter correct password or login then he/she
is logged on to the remote computer.

Electronic mail

Also called email which enables internet user to send a mail((message)_to another internet user in any
part of the world.for using a service of email each internet user has a logical mailbox.when sending a
mail to another user, a sender specifies the email address of the receiver .after sending a mail in the
network, the receiver extracts the mail from his/her mailbox .

Message in email service can contain text document, image, audio, video data. With email service , the
internet has proved to be rapid and productive communication tool for millions of users.

Following advantage of mail

1) Faster (it takes few seconds to several minute to reach its destination)
2) Persons who are communicating to each other need not be available at a same time
3) Email documents can be stored in a computer and can edited easily , forward easily( in fax files
are not edited )

Stands for hyper text transfer protocol is a set of standards that allow users of the www to
exchange information found on web pages.it is a foundation of data communication for the
world wide web. We can say that it is a standard protocol for transferring hypertext documents
on the world wide web.

it is a software application that enables internet users to access , navigate and search www
sites. Browser is a gateway to access internet.it is a graphical user interface for displaying
html files, used to navigate www.

It is a program that your computer runs to communicate with web servers on the internet,
which enables it to download and display the web pages that request. Web browser
understands the HTML and display text. A web browser has the ability to interpret or display
many types of files.
