Rational in Choosing Study Area

Taman Tasik Titiwangsa is pearl of Malaysia especially for Kuala Lumpur due to its
exquisite urban park and diverse function to human beings and environment.

This park has been chosen as study area because location of the park is located in
metropolitan urban area, Kuala Lumpur. Despite surrounded by massive and rapid
urbanization, this historic 1980 urban park able to stand alongside with skyscraper of
Kuala Lumpur without deterioration of its quality.

Secondly, variety of activities and facilities provided by Taman Tasik Titiwangsa is one
of factor that interest as a study area. Some urban park that have similar characteristics as
Taman Tasik Titiwangsa only able to accommodate fewer recreation activities either
active or passive recreation. But Taman Tasik Titiwangsa not just serve passive recreation
due to its beautiful lake, but also provide active recreation such as water theme park and
kayaking.

Distance of the park from residential and commercial area that can reach by walking
distance also contribute as the best selection of study area. This is because this factor can
be used to identify relationship between distance or urban park to population area and
frequency usage of urban park also degree of healthy life style by population nearby. This
relationship can be as a guidance towards allocate park in urban area and suitable
activities for urban area.

Nowadays, town planner and local authorities effortlessly try to provide healthy
environment for local residents either by 4R recycle concept, regulations on green
building and green initiative and by mean transportation. Green transportation is a vision
that local authorities even town planner try to idealize since it is hard to achieve due to
current demand that emphasize on time and distance but along with neglecting
environment. Since this green park is located in urban area, this park can be used as a
study area to investigate the effect of urban park towards provision of public
transportation or other initiative that reduce vehicle carbon emission.
