Thanks so much for downloading this freebie! My sister teaches Kindergarten and
asked me to make a word problem booklet without too many words. She wanted her
struggling students to feel successful while solving these with little or no help after
modeling them, of course.

I call them FIRST STEPS Story Problems because I truly believe these are a perfect intro
to word problems for Kindergartners. Introduce and practice the phrases How many
in all? How many altogether? and chances are good that little ones will be able to work
independently on this booklet.

I have included two booklets that are identical EXCEPT that one offers a number line
to use. Great for differentiation! For those ready to use/show the jumps, give them
the second book for a challenge.

I have a series of these in my store. To locate them, you can click on First Steps: Word
Problems on the sidebar. I’ll be adding to the collection with the themes that are
incorporated into many Kindergarten programs.

The sets in my store offer addition, subtraction and mixed to 10 books in the same
packet. (For a total of 6 books: 3 with and 3 without number lines.) It also includes a
blank page for YOU or the KIDS to make up more.

Once introduced, these can be used during Daily 3, as Do-Nows, in Sub Tubs,
homework (if given!), etc. Thanks to the following clip artists for their
amazing work!
