Abridged Syllabus

Course Subject: The Child and Adolescent Learners and Learning Principles

Course Description: This course focuses on child and adolescent development with emphasis on current
research and theory on biological, linguistic, cognitive, social and emotional dimensions of development.
Further, this includes factors that affect the progress of development of the learners and shall include appropriate
pedagogical principles applicable for each development level.

Course Credit: 3 units

Time Allotment: 4 hours lecture every week for 13 weeks

Course Requirements:
1. Completing the performance tasks and major exams with a passing mark of 60%.
2. Reading the assigned texts and other learning materials prior to attending classes.
3. Active participation in class activities and discussions including individual and group dynamics to
achieve learning outcomes.
4. Regular and punctual attendance in class and in submission of requirements.
5. Teaching portfolio
6. Access to office 365 Account, including Outlook, Microsoft Teams, One Note, and Class Notebook.
Class Policies:
1. Attendance: A student is permitted to be absent from class but will be held responsible for missing the
class and all the activities made in the class. If the absence results in missing a test, the student must be
prepared to take the test. Attendance will be checked any time during the class.
2. Electronic Materials: Mobile phones, tablets, desktops and laptops will be used in class. Observe proper
use of electronic materials during discussion.
3. Plagiarism and Academic Honesty: All work submitted in this class must be your own work, generated
exclusively for this class. The use of sources (ideas, quotations, paraphrases) should be properly
documented. We have a way of checking if the work submitted is plagiarized or not. In clear cases of
plagiarism or academic dishonesty, the award of a failing mark for the project is the standard policy with
the possibility of failure in the course or expulsion from the college. National University has zero
tolerance in plagiarism.
4. Proper Online Class Etiquette: Please maintain proper decorum during class.
5. Announcements, Deadlines and Submissions: All announcements are made in Microsoft Teams. It is
your responsibility to join the group and update yourself with the deadlines and activities done in class.
All the guidelines in the Written Works and Performance Tasks are also uploaded in Microsoft Teams.
Also a softcopy of all Written Works and Performance Tasks should be uploaded in Microsoft Teams as
an Assignment. Written Works and Performance Tasks which are submitted late will incur
corresponding deductions depending on how late the work was submitted.

Grading System: Passing Grade is 60%.


The student will be graded according to the following breakdown:

Technology Requirement: Microsoft Teams App (Phone, Tablet, Desktop or Laptop), Microsoft Office 365,
Any Graphic Design App. (Canvas, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Pixeden etc.)
