1. Describe internal model control (IMC) based PID controller design procedure step by step clearly? (4pt)

2. For closed loop stability the given third order process with a p- only controller to be designed.
1
𝑔(𝑠) =
(3𝑠 + 1)(2𝑠 + 1)(𝑠 + 1)

You are asked to determine:-

a) Rang of tuning parameter?(3pt)

b) The value of tuning parameter at which the verge of instability to be occur?(3pt)
c) Ziegler Nichols ultimate gain?(3pt)
3. For the given model process 4th year electrical control engineering students are asked to design appropriate
controller which is PID equivalent to IMC for industrial application using 2nd order pad approximation.

𝑔(𝑠) = 4e−θs
Now assume you are the member of those students what will be the controller to be designed and related
tuning parameters if time-delay of 5 second is desired? (5pt)

4. Consider the following first-order process. (5pt)

2
𝑔(𝑠) =
3𝑠+1
If the desired closed-loop response to a set point change is second order with the following form.
𝛼𝑠 + 1
𝑔𝑐𝑙(𝑠) =
( 𝜆𝑠 + 1)2
Where  and  are adjustable tuning parameters (they are both positive). What type of
controller is this? If the controller is PID form (perhaps with a lag), find each of the tuning
parameters (kc, I, D, F). Show that  > 0.5 is required for the controller to be stable.

5. Design and draw feed forward controller based on dynamic models by assuming negligible dynamics of
disturbances and control valves.(4pt) Where:-

4 2
Gp(s) = 𝑎𝑛𝑑 Gd(s) =
4𝑠 + 1 3𝑠 + 1

What is the value of feed forward controller gain from the above that you have designed (3pt)?

6. Describe the ratio control and two ways of controlling method(Including control block diagram; gain
formula and ) ?(8pt)
7. Describe and draw their control block diagram for the following advanced process control
a) Cascade control? (4pt)
b) Self-tuning adaptive control? (4pt)
c) Multivariable control? (4pt)
