Chapter 5

Summary, Conclusions, Implication, and Recommendations

This chapter contains four parts: (1) Summary, (2) Conclusion, (3) Implications and (3)

Recommendations.

Part One, Summary, recapitulates the objectives of the study, methodology used to

answer the research problems, and the findings of the study.

Part Two, Conclusions, discusses the inferences drawn from the results of the

quantitative part of the study.

Part Three, Implications, discusses what your findings might reflects for theory and

practice.

Part Four, Recommendations, offers some suggestion that it can provide to educational

experts and interested constituents.

Summary

This descriptive research aimed at ascertaining the extent of forensic practices of police

investigators in the Province of Antique as bases for a proposed training design. In addition,

this study will also make use of qualitative method to find out the problems/issues encountered

by police investigators in the conduct of investigation using forensic sciences.

Specifically, it sought answer the following questions:

1. What is the extent of forensic practices of police investigators as an entire group and

when classified as to age, length of service, and educational attainment in terms of Ballistics,

Photography and Dactyloscopy?

2. Is there a significant difference in the extent of forensic practices of police

investigators when classified as to age, length of service, and educational attainment in terms

of Ballistics, Photography and Dactyloscopy?

3. What are the problems/issues encountered by police investigators in the conduct of

investigation or examination using forensic sciences?

4. What training design can be proposed to enhance the forensic practices of police

investigators?

The findings of the study revealed the following results:

1. The police investigators have very high extent of forensic practices in terms of

Ballistics, and Photography as an entire group and when grouped as to age, length of service,

and educational attainment. But police investigators have high extent of forensic practices in

terms of Dactyloscopy as an entire group and when grouped as to age, length of service, and

educational attainment.

2. The data shows a not significant difference existed in the extent of forensic

practices of police investigators in terms of Ballistics, Photography and Dactyloscopy when

classified as to age, length of service, and educational attainment.

3. The problems/issues encountered by police investigators in the conduct of

investigation or examination using forensic sciences are lack of equipment and supplies,

uncooperative witness, lack of proper training, bad weather condition, and crime scene

contamination.

Conclusions

Based on the findings of the quantitative study, the following conclusions were drawn

by the researcher.

1. The result of the study lead to infer that the police investigators in the province of

Antique were highly capable of performing and applying forensic science during the conduct of

crime scene investigation particularly in ballistics and photography regardless of age, length of

service and educational attainment.

2. The forensic practices of police investigator in the province of Antique in terms of

ballistics and photography do not have variation. This also hold the premise that Age, length of

service and educational attainment does not affect the capability of police investigators in the

application of forensic science. However, a variation was noted in forensic practices in term of

dactyloscopy but not significant.

3. Factors such as lack of equipment and supplies, uncooperative witness, lack of

proper training, bad weather condition, and crime scene contamination are the problem

encountered by police investigator during the conduct crime scene investigation.

Implications

For Theory

Considering the outcome of the study on the problems/issues encountered by police

investigators in the conduct of investigation or examination using forensic sciences, the

researcher realized the importance of practice in enhancing performance of police investigator

during the conduct of crime scene investigation or examination using forensic sciences. It

creates a connotation that if practice of forensic science of police investigator is very high, it

means they are doing their job at their best to meet the expectation of the community.

Likewise, a very high practice implies that they are performing their responsibility at a high level

of performance. It reflects good image to our police Investigator who practice in this field. The

stakeholders representing by the victim are assured that justice is served.

This was supported by Schechner’s Performance theory (2004), which suggests that

Humans are capable of extraordinary accomplishments and the wonderful accomplishments also

occur in dayto-day practice. Thus, worthy accomplishments were produced from high level

performances. This theory was supported by Long (2016) which suggest the only way to learn

something new is to practice. She suggests that it takes 10,000 hours of practice to become an

expert at something. So whether you aspire to “pretty good” or “expert,” practice is essential.

Yet practicing can be difficult and painful when we’re used to having a high degree of

competence. However, making a commitment to practice is essential to maximize the impact of

training. After all, practice is the only way to become proficient in a new skill or behavior.

Fogleman (2017), also added that if you routinely practice something, the likelihood of you

doing better on something is higher. It helps you improve.

The result points out the importance of equipment and supplies for proper

documentation, preservation, and evaluation of a location in which a criminal act may have

occurred and any associated evidence within the location for the purpose of reconstructing

events using the forensic science.

For Practice

The extent of forensic practices of Police investigators in the province of Antique was very high.

This call for a recognition that police investigator must be given merit for their best

performance. However, this should be monitored by the concern authority because they still

have to sustain their practices. An Evaluation and accountability of their performance must

always be delineated. There is still a need to find ways to promote sustainability on the forensic

practices of police investigators.

Forensic science covers many areas of traditional science and melds them together to

create an area of science called forensics. It is also considered as a term that has various areas

under it. When a crime is committed and the forensic team is called in, there are many experts

who cover these specialized fields. Although all these people could be considered forensic

scientists, they have specific areas that they work in (Kiely, 2008).

Recommendations

Based on the findings, conclusions, and implications discussed above, the following

recommendations are advanced:

1. Police investigators may consider attending relevant seminars and trainings

involving dactyloscopy. Also, heads of the police investigators in the Province of Antique must

support the needs of their respective police investigators regarding forensic practices.

2. The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) may considered to

provide support and assistance by providing necessary supplies and equipment for crime

investigation using forensic science.

3. The National Police Commission (NAPOLCOM)may look into Sustainable programs

for police investigators using forensic science.

4. Interested researchers in the field may look into other factors that would affect the

forensic practices of police investigators in the country. They may also consider other variables

not found in the present study.

5. Since the quantitative result appear to be not convincing due to various problem

disclosed by the respondent which is fully in disagreement, a Conduct of exploratory research is

suggested to validate the result.
