CAUTION!
Therefore, every person involved in installing, operating and servicing the product must read,
understand and observe the complete operating instructions, particularly the safety
instructions.
CAUTION!
Rectify immediately any functional disorders, especially those affecting the safety of the product.
must be observed.
INFORMATION!
Particular data to the operation and limit values are specified in the chapter "Technical data".
CAUTION!
The operating values, limit values and setting data must not deviate from the values specified in
the operation manual and corresponding information sheet without consulting the
manufacturer! The manufactuer cannot be held liable for any damages resulting from non-
observance of the operation manual.
2.3.3 Checks
Periodically check that the personnel carry out the work in compliance with the operation
manual and that they pay attention to risks and safety factors.
CAUTION!
Only media may be metered by the flow sensor for which assurance is available that the
chemical and physical properties of the media wetted parts (electrodes, liner, grounding and
protection rings, flange gaskets etc) will not be adversely affected.
DANGER!
Do not exceed the design data of the flow sensor!
The operating pressure must not exceed the permitted nominal pressure declared on the name
plate. Exceeding the design data may lead to damage and uncontrolled escape of the
pressurized medium and may cause severe or fatal injuries.
WARNING!
When transporting and handling the flow sensor, observe ist weight.
Place the hoisting ropes securely around the body of the flow sensor.
The flow sensor may injure persons if dropped.
Do not walk under suspended loads.
CAUTION!
Potentially installed protection rings at the prozess connections are intended to protect the liner
during transport and installation, these may not be removed.
CAUTION!
In case of installation works above headroom use suitable step-ladders or service platforms. Do
not use the flow sensor as a step tread.
CAUTION!
The flow sensor must be installed in stress-free manner with parallel, concentric mating
flanges. The used flange gaskets must be suitable for the operating conditions (kind of media,
media temperature etc.). All flange bolts must be tightened to the specified max. torque value.
DANGER!
All work on the electrical connections may only be carried out with the power disconnected. Take
note of the voltage data on the nameplate!
DANGER!
Observe the national regulations for electrical installations!
DANGER!
Electrical connection is carried out in conformity with the VDE 0100 directive "Regulations for
electrical power installations with line voltages up to 1000 V" or equivalent national regulations.
DANGER!
The device must be grounded in accordance with regulations in order to protect personnel
against electric shocks.
DANGER!
There should be no difference in potential between the measuring sensor and the housing or
protective earth of the signal converter!
DANGER!
In case of metering hot media, touching the housing of the flow sensor or attached components
may cause burns.
DANGER!
Do not dismantle or remove the flow sensor from the line as long as the flow sensor is
pressurized! Depressurize the relevant flow sensor, shut off the line segment where the flow
sensor is installed and remove the medium, before opening the flange bolts at the flow sensor.
DANGER!
Inform yourself of the properties of the medium transported by the flow sensor before
performing installation or maintenance works or dismantling the flow sensor.
Observe the safety instructions in the safety data sheets of the manufacturers.
Protect yourself and your environment from hazardous or poisonous substances.
CAUTION!
Protect yourself against noise if a high noise level near by the installation area of the flow sensor
is existing.

7 Technical data
7.1 Measuring principle
An electrically conductive fluid flows inside an electrically insulating pipe through a magnetic
field. This magnetic field is generated by a current, flowing through a pair of field coils. Inside of
the fluid, a voltage U is generated:
U=v*k*B*D
in which:
v = mean flow velocity
k = factor correcting for geometry
B = magnetic field strength
D = inner diameter of flow meter
The signal voltage U is picked off by electrodes and is proportional to the mean flow velocity v
and thus the flow rate q. The signal voltage is quite small (typically 1 mV at v = 3 m/s / 10 ft/s and
field coil power of 1 W). Finally, a signal converter is used to amplify the signal voltage, filter it
(separate from noise) and convert it into signals for totalising, recording and output processing.
