Adverbs of Place
What is an adverb of place?
Adverbs of place mainly modify verbs and tell us where something happens. Some
instructors refer to these words or phrases as spatial adverbs.
these adverbs always answer one important question: Where?

These simple rules for adverbs of place will help you to use them the right way:

 An adverb of place always talks about the location where the action of
the verb is being carried out.
 Adverbs of place are normally placed after a sentence’s object or main
verb.
 Adverbs of place can be directional. For example: Up, down, around,
away, north
 Adverbs of place can refer to distances. For example: Nearby, far away,
 An adverb of place can indicate an object’s position in relation to another
object. For example: Below, between, above, behind

Examples;

 The child went indoors.

 He lived and worked abroad.
 Water always flows downhill.
 The wind pushed us sideways.
 They built a house nearby.
 I’ve worked here for five years.
 The bus stop is over there.
 Jenny is upstairs, in her bedroom.
 Is there a good restaurant nearby?
 That city is far away from here.
 It’s starting to rain. Let’s go inside.

This is an alphabetical list of common single-word place adverbs.

Adverbs of place mainly modify verbs and tell us where something happens.

About = Sobre
abroad= extranjero

Across= al otro lado de

Ahead= adelante

Anywhere= en cualquier lugar

away= lejos
back= espalda
backwards (also backward)= hacia atrás
behind= detrás

Beyond= más allá de

down= abajo
downstairs=el piso abajo
east, west,= este oeste,

Eastwards= hacia el este

Everywhere= En todas partes

Elsewhere= en otra parte

far= lejos
here= aquí
indoors= adentro
