Nursing Considerations

• Before:
• Inform the client of the test procedure.
• Encourage to avoid stress if possible because altered physiologic status
influences and changes normal hematologic values.
• During:
• . Explain that slight discomfort may be felt when the skin is punctured.
• After:
• Discuss results to the client explaining further what the results indicates

HEMOGLOBIN 16 g/dL Male: 13-18 IndIcation: NORMAL

Female: 12-16
Significance: The oxygen-carrying part of the red blood cell.

Implication: The hemoglobin of the mother is normal or simply not

anemic this indicate sufficient transport of oxygen from lungs to the
capilliariees of the tissue. High hemoglobin levels could be indicative of
the rare blood disease, polycythemia.
HEMATOCRIT 42 Vol % Male: 41-50 IndIcation: NORMAL
Female: 36-44 Significance: The volume or percentage of red blood cells in the
blood sample.
Implication: Since the hematocrit of the motehr is normal it indicate
sufficient blood volume in the body that compared of red blood
cells. A low or high red blood cell count can indicate a medical
condition or disease.

WHITE BLOOD 9 mcL 5-10 IndIcation: NORMAL

CELLS
Significance: A blood cell that helps protect the body from infection.
Increased WBC counts may indicate infection or other stress to the
body.

Indication: Normal level of WBC indicates sufficient leukocytes in the

immune system that helps to fightinfection and defend the body
against other foreign microbes.
NEUTROPHILS 55% 40-60 IndIcation: NORMAL

Significance: A type of white blood cell that protect us from infections,

among other functions. They make up approximately 40% to 60% of
the white blood cells in our bodies, and the first cells to arrive on the
scene when we experience a bacterial infection.

Implication: A normal level of nuetrophils indicates a high number of

cells to migrate the site of infection to begin killing the invading
microbes.
NEUTROPHIL 6% 3-7 IndIcation: NORMAL

EXAMINATION RESULT
Blood Type “O”
Rh typ Negative

Interpretation:
This blood type O has neither A or B markers.
O negative blood type doesn't have A or B
markers, and it doesn't have Rh factor.
Nursing Considerations

• Before:
• Inform the client of the test procedure.
• Instruct the patient to void directly into a clean, dry container. Sterile,
disposable containers are recommended. Women should always have a
clean-catch specimen if a microscopic examination is ordered.
• During:
• . Instruct the client to wait for the result.
• After:
• Discuss results to the client explaining further what the results indicates
Importance of Urinalysis in Pregnancy
• Urine analysis by dipstick can provide information on urinary tract
infections, glucosuria and proteinuria. While the estimation of glucosuria
has been found to be of no use for the detection of gestational diabetes
and therefore is not recommended as a screening method for this disorder,
urine analysis by dipstick or culture for bacteriuria or urinary tract infection
followed by an antibiotic treatment is able to reduce maternal and
neonatal complications. The most important role for urine analysis is the
detection of proteinuria by routine dipstick examination and the
quantification of proteinuria by 24 hour urin sampling in women with
hypertensive disorders in pregnancy, especially in preeclampsia.

Gravity
Significance: A very high specific gravity means very concentrated urine,
which may be caused by not drinking enough fluid, loss of too much fluid, or
substances in the urine. Very low specific gravity means dilute urine, which
may be caused by drinking too much fluid, severe kidney disease, or the use
of diuretics.

Implication: The mother is not dehydrated or the specific gravity is normal

therefore, there is no implication occurred.
PH 6 5.0-8.0 Indication: Normal

Significance: Some foods and medicines can affect urine pH. A high pH can be
caused by severe vomiting, a kidney disease, some urinary tract infections,
and asthma. A low pH may be caused by severe lung disease , uncontrolled
diabetes, aspirin overdose, severe diarrhea, dehydration, starvation, drinking
too much alcohol, or drinking antifreeze.
