Background of Project

There are numerous factors of curriculum changes in higher engineering education,

and this all focuses to create other options to the outdated programmed that consists of
disciplinary abstract courses. In order to have a higher chance of attracting future students,
enhance preparing skills for professional exercise, decrease attrition and produce a
maintainable growth, innovation, and job creation, the background is a much needed
concept. It also helps in producing quality growth and the quality of the processes as well
as the results of education. Nowadays, not only talents but in fact the reserve of talents act
as the factor of competitions among countries. Engineering knowledge that support each of
the industries is able to sustain as well as encourage stability and development of the
economic sector. Besides, advancement of engineering field is a key factor in encouraging
complete domestic influence and this is be-cause of scientific revolution contributes to
significant changes of the industrial organization. Engineering education need to adjust to
this change so that engineer’s role in society can change. Rather than having a career for
lower technological engineering, engineer in the future can work for knowledge based
service economy. The needs for educator of engineering background are in high demand.
This is be-cause these people face the challenge of creating a learning environment that
also nurture corporate process abilities in addition to the technical set of skills, raise
graduating students’ qualities starting in the initial year of engineering courses. When the
practical understanding and abilities form the fundamental of engineering syllabuses, these
are not the only abilities that is needed from an engineering grad-uate as this industry now
sought after engineers who possess abilities which explore beyond merely the technical
mastery as well as including the practice of soft skills such as independent and teamwork.
Employability skills and entrepreneurship are accompanied by generic skills can be
achieved if holistic education with basic amenities such as teaching equipment must be up to
date with the current industry and technology development . Therefore, CDIO identifies the
engineering education cannot be acquired in a short period of time and educators in every
part of this field can study from practice anywhere else.

CDIO stands for Conceive – Design – Implement – Operate. It’s an innovative

educational framework for producing the next generation of engineering leaders. Industry
benefits because CDIO produces engineers who have the knowledge, talents and
experience it specifically needs. Educators are interested because the CDIO syllabus forms
a basis for curricular planning and outcome based assessment that is universally adaptable
for all engineering schools. And, students are enthusiastic because they’re graduating with a
unique array of personal, interpersonal, and system-building experiences that allows them to
excel in real engineering teams, and produce new products and systems.
For the assignment of this semester .Our group have decide to coduct a CDIO
project to encourage the students to use their communication, teamwork, critical and
creative thinking, digital and lifelong learning skills to carry out this assignment. This project
requires knowledge on inter and intra-personal skill, environmental and sustainability issues
and appropriate technologies in civil engineering and our group have decide to create a
grant chart application (Task Manager).

Problem statement

Nowadays, design a gantt chart by using excel is a common thing but it's very
complicated because it required a high skill of excel. There is other option in order to create
a gantt chart by using software but most of them are overpriced and difficult to set up. As a
student, we find out it is hard to plan our project using gantt chart because it is very difficult
and expensive. Hence, we decide to produce a new concept of gantt chart by building up an
application to perform a gantt chart in the easiest method and the most important thing it is
free. Grantt chart was originally developed by Henry L. Gantt, an American mechanical
engineer, in 1917 and is alternatively called a Gantt chart.1It quickly became popular
especially in the construction industry because of its ability to graphically represent a
project’s activities in a clear, simple, and time-scaled manner. Before a bar chart can be
constructed for a project, the project must be broken into smaller, usually homogeneous
components, each of which is called an activity or a task. None of the methods is a uniquely
“correct” way to break down a project into activities, nor can we describe other ways as
incorrect. However, the scheduler should take a balanced approach and break the project
down into a reasonable number of activities that are easily measured and controlled without
being overly detailed. An activity, or a task, may be as large as laying the foundation of a
building, as small as erecting the formwork of one footing, or anywhere in between. The
duration of each activity must be estimated. Bars are then drawn to show each activity: the
duration and the starting and ending points. As mentioned previously, links between
activities are not usually shown. On a bar chart, the bar may not indicate continuous work
from the start of the activity until its end. For example, the activity Getting a Building Permit
may be represented by a 2-month-long bar. However, most of this time is a waiting period
.Likewise, a Concrete Foundation summary activity may include several days of waiting for
the concrete to cure. Non continuous (dashed) bars are sometimes used to distinguish
between real work (solid lines) and inactive periods (gaps between solid lines).Hence, Bar
charts have become a vehicle for representing many pieces of a project’s information. Many
variations of bar charts have evolved; some simply show the start and the end of each
activity, some are loaded with resource or budget numbers.

Objectives of Project

When you set up a Gantt chart, you need to think through all of the tasks involved in your
project. As part of this process, you'll work out who will be responsible for each task, how
long each task will take, and what problems your team may encounter.

This detailed thinking helps you ensure that the schedule is workable, that the right people
are assigned to each task, and that you have workarounds for potential problems before you
start.

They also help you work out practical aspects of a project, such as the minimum time it will
take to deliver, and which tasks need to be completed before others can start. Plus, you can
use them to identify the critical path – the sequence of tasks that must individually be
completed on time if the whole project is to deliver on time.

Finally, you can use them to keep your team and your sponsors informed of progress.
Simply update the chart to show schedule changes and their implications, or use it to
communicate that key tasks have been completed.

Significance of Project
