1. Explain the conflict in a story you've read.

Then evaluate how effectively the conflict creates specific

emotions in you, the reader. Be sure to introduce your ideas, use precise language, use specific
examples from the story, and end the response with a concluding statement. The story you analyze may
be a reading from this course. Alternatively, the story may be from outside the course, or from another
course.

In Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by JK Rowling, the death of the House Elf Dobby was tragic. He
promised Harry that he would never try to save his life again, but died in breaking that promise, and
freeing Harry along with Hermione, Ron, Luna, Dean, Xeno, Ollivander and Griphook from Malfoy
Manor. When Bellatrix Lestrange threw her wand at Dobby, the audience was left staring at the screen
while praying that the vicious, murdering and crazy woman missed-but she didn't. Dobby died saving his
friends, and Harry used Dobby's death to empower himself to finally kill the Dark Lord.

2. Analyze the development of a complex character in an episode of a television show or movie you've
seen. In your analysis, focus on at least one interaction this character has with another character, his or
her role in the plot, and his or her character arc. Be sure to introduce your ideas, use precise language
and specific examples from the movie or television episode, and end the response with a concluding
statement.

Movie Chosen: Split Character: Casey

Personally, I think Casey is a great character to be analyzed. She has been through a lot throughout her
life, and we can see her evolution and history throughout the development of the movie. The
interactions with the other characters are carried out with great intelligence and delicacy. For example,
she tries to help her friends but from her wisdom, trying to advise them on what to do in relation to
their kidnapper. Unfortunately, her friends do not follow her advice and have a tragic end. Casey,
handles her relationship with her kidnapper as if he were "an animal". Recall that Casey spent her entire
childhood hunting in the woods for which she has experience with "the beasts." She knows how to deal
with her kidnapper and is smart, allowing her to survive in turn, Casey has gone through situations of
physical and psychological abuse by her uncle. She can sense that Kevin has been through a similar
situation, which gives her an advantage in knowing the things she should and should not do.In
conclusion, Casey's development from a girl who does not try to defend herself from her kidnapper as
her friends do, to the revelation of her story and why it was more convenient for her to be quiet to
survive, makes her a great character.

3. Write one scene of a narrative. Use primarily description to develop the plot of the scene, including its
rising action and climax. Be sure to engage and orient the reader to the situation in the story, establish
more than one character, and create a smooth progression of events

Once when I went to a go-kart place called K1 speed in Concord. We go there signed our names and paid
for our tickets. When the race started, all was going well until lap 3 of 4 when my friend Josh crashed
into the wall barriers. The karts stopped everyone wall worried and was wondering if he was okay. In the
end Josh was fine, had a few bruises and cuts but no major damage thankfully.
