1. In the preface to The Pluto files, what is Neil DeGrasse Tyson's viewpoint on the "planet" Pluto?

What
details does he use to support this point of view? Be sure to use specific details from the text to support
your ideas and include an introductory sentence, precise language, a formal style, and a concluding
statement.

Neil DeGrasse Tyson has a very distinct point of view on Pluto. He doesn’t think Pluto is a planet at all.
He says that Pluto is simply a piece of ice that interferes with other planets & their orbits. Pluto has not
been forgotten though, it’s simply just considered to be a “dwarf planet” now.

2. Some people believe that young adults (those under 18) should be held to the same standards as
adults. They think that if a minor commits a crime, he or she should face the same punishment as an
adult who committed the same crime. In your response, argue against this viewpoint. Use the rhetorical
device pathos to show that young people should not receive the same criminal punishments as adults.
Be sure to introduce your point of view in the topic sentence, support your viewpoint with details,
address a possible counter-claim, and end your response with a concluding statement.

Children make mistakes all the time, they're still learning. What if your child got arrested for stealing
candy from a store? You would most likely be pretty upset if your 10-year-old daughter was arrested for
making a childish mistake. Just because some kids comit terrible crimes such as murder and rape,
doesn’t mean that all kids should be treated as an adult in the court of law.

3. Write a short narrative describing a typical morning in your life. Be sure to use a sequence of plot
events, use a consistent point of view, and use transitions between ideas.

On every weekday morning, I wake up at around 9pm, eat breakfast, then get ready for my fitness
session, and lastly, I go to practice.
